Almost winnah, winnah..Chicken dinnah...
I came real close today at Orlando Speedworld in their first Summit Series points event of the year...but wait, there's more...lol...a lot more...
I arrived at the track at 9AM this morning...I got my first time shot at 11.50AM...I was a bit nervous to see if we fixed my trans brake issue...we did...I went 6.55 with an .018 tree and a 1.39 short time...woot!...they called us up for our second time shot at 2:15PM...over 200 cars on property!...I missed the tree a little with an .031 light and went 6.57...I can live with these numbers...
First round went off for me at 4:42PM...I drew a 60's era Ford Falcon dialed 7.72...he went -.015 and it was a good thing he did...I had a .003 light....but....I spun and chunked on launch and could only muster a 6.72 out the back door...yipers!....that light got me the bye in round 2 at 6:56PM and that would hurt me bigly later on...I ran it out to get some info and went 6.54 with an .011 tree...on to round next...
Round 3 saw me line up with a nice 78 Malibu dialed 7.07 to my 6.55...it is now 8:26PM and he was 10 red to my .014...I ran it out again for info and went 6.531...sheesh...they call us up for round 4 at 9:24PM...I catch a friend in his 72 Vega...he dialed 8.18 to my 6.52...he beat me on the tree with a .020 light to my .034...oops...I got lucky when he broke out and I went 6.531 again...
Along comes round 5 at 10:03PM and I get a very good friend in his 69 Dodge Dart called Shake, Rattle and Roll...he dials 6.87 and I leave 6.52 on my board...we both leave green but he is toast at the tree,,,he has .070 light but I am .000...I am 6 thou under but he is a lot more under...sorry buddy...I purposely wanted to hit the tree hard since I might get the bye at 3 cars into the final...I accomplished that....but....no bye for me...I completely forgot I had a bye in round 2 so I could not get another...rats!!!!...
This meant I had to run my great friend at 3 cars.....this is the guy who put my car together and maintains it for me...damn it!...anyway, he is doubling in his wife's Malibu...he dials 6.98 to my 6.51...we leave green and he drops me on my head at the stripe...fortunately I had him by a hair on the tree with an .028 to his .034 light...I go dead on with a zero ftw. as he goes two above...oh well...it is now 10:30PM...Now I am in the final against another friend...he dials 6.27 in his 70 Duster...I put 6.51 on mine, what else?.....lol...sadly, I tree him with a .025 to his .030 but my car spins and chunks once again and I can do no better than 4 numbers over my dial running 6.55...easy win for him but that's drag racing....sigh...it is 10:50 at this point and I am fairly tired...
So, that's my story this night and I am pleased to have gotten that far given I am still learning how to leave off the brake...at least I got a small trophy and a nice wad of cash to ease my pain...lol...next up looks like Palm Beach on Feb. 9th...

Dan,
Nice work. I was going to come with my still not right C5 but I knew it would bum me out to race a wounded car so I decided to sit it out and shoot to be ready for points meet #2 in March. Still hopeful to get the C6 GS sorted out and racing later in the year.
Happy New Year.

Thanks guys...it was nice to finally go some rounds...I was bummed out that the car spun in the final but, oh well, stuff happens...there is something about sitting in the staging lanes late at night when the place is dead quiet...only you and one other are left and most folks have gone home...it is chilly and the dew is heavy in the air...very peaceful to me...I love that feeling...
Thanks BIGMAC...hope to see you soon but I do not think there is a points event at OSW in March, buddy...

Dan Thanks for your courage as a journalist as well as a racer. When you post your defeat as well as victory I can identify from afar and share in your agony of defeat as well as joy of victory right along with you. (Sorry ABC Sports)

You are very welcome...I enjoy putting these together and, as I have said before, they actually help me understand what went on and what I could do better, possibly....I try to be as accurate as I can...

Odd scheduling by Ozzy. Points opener in early Jan and #2 not until late March. I plan to use the time between to try to get at least one of my cars sorted out. BTW, it seems the Lakeland track is now permanently shut down. Can you confirm?

Yes, that track is history for good...sad but true...teh good news is BLP has stepped up the program at OSW and is paying $1750 to win for a $60 entry in Pro ET and $500 to win in street if you are so inclined...
