Default Oh well...so goes life...

I went to Orlando Speedworld today for their summit series event...gates opened at 2PM and the temps were stupid hot...94* and a "feel like" temp of 102*...hot and muggy...we unloaded and get ready for time shot 1...they called us up and I went 6.66 @ 100mph with a 35 tree leaving off the button....meh...my buddy Mike got turned away ...he was leaking fuel...upon checking it was coming out of his Magnafuel pump...he was back on the trailer before he even started....sigh...two weeks ago at Darlington he threw belts and never got to run...bad luck for him lately...

They called us up for our second time shot and I was not feeling to well...the heat was getting to me badly...I made the pass and went 6.63 @ 102mph with a 21 tree...I was in trouble with the heat though...thankfully the clouds moved in and the temp dropped 10 degrees...whew...they called us up for the first round.....

I lined up with a friend in his 84 Cutlass dialed 6.99...I put 6.64 on my board and off we went...I left at almost the same time as him...oops...he was in deep do do...I caught him very early and whomped a bunch to go 6.69 at 96mph scrubbing 6 mph for the win...I was 23 on the tree to his 101...

They call us for second round...I go up and catch a nice newer Mustang dialed 8.55...I put 6.63 on my dial even though I was heading for 62 the round before...holding a little...he leave first and green...I leave and know I am right on the edge..."this could be heaven or this could be hell" as the Eagles said...it was hell for me going .009 red...naturally he was 73 on the tree...sigh....I ran it out to see how I close I dialed and went 6.626 and 4 thou under...dirty rats a frats...lol...

So that ended my birthday racing...I am not unhappy though...I am now 72 years old and still getting a huge kick out of racing...next up is Palm Beach next weekend and I can't wait...a big thank you to my buddy Mike for the cake and drinks...I really appreciate that, buddy....

Dan,
Great to see you at the track and happy birthday! I am pushing 70 years old myself so I know the heat can make us old guys woozy. I made it to the quarter-final in Pro ET before losing on a .003 red bulb. I ran it out to a 6.679 on a 6.800 dial so that is likely as close to a perfect package as I will ever see! So close but yet so far...the story of bracket racing...but I love it...and it keeps us young (at heart ). At least I was on the trailer going home on Rte 50 before the rain hit. See you soon.
Jim

It was good to see you Mac...I saw you going rounds...nice job, buddy...I knew when I let go that tree was going to be close...oh well...on the way to the track, I hit a swarm of love bugs and my Yuk looked crazy on the front...thankfully on my way home I hit a horrific rainstorm which knocked most of them off...whew...saved me a lot of work...lol...I have to race palm beach on the 18 and 1st but I will see you at orlando on the 25th even if just to spectate...I feel like Mickey Mantle when he famously said "If I had known I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself"...lmao...
