Default Winnah...Winnah...spam dinnah...

I came very close to a chicken dinner but missed out on the poultry by this much....sigh...more on this later...BTW, I just walked in at 4:35AM...long day...

I raced at Palm Beach yesterday in their IHRA Summit Super Series event...we got there at 2 PM and my buddy Mike made his first time shot...I decided to save energy and only take the second one...I ran a 6.60 with an awful 78 tree...they call us up for first round and I put 6.60 on my dial in board...I run a fast dart dialed 6.10...we both missed the tree but I missed by a lot less...on to round two whomping, ftw...

In the second round I catch a friend in his C3 vette...he dials 6.55 and I put 6.59 on mine since that looks as if what I was going to run in the first round...we both miss the tree again but him a lot worse than me so I whomp again for the win and on to round next...

In round three I get another friend in her C5...she dials 6.70 to my 6.60...I tree her with a 25 to her 35...I whomp again for the win but my 330' mark says I would have gone 6.59...now we are on the ladder...

I get paired with a buddy in his 92 Camaro...he dials 7.94 to my 6.59...I get him on the tree and go dead on with a 5 for the W....next round I am paired with my great friend Mike in his Malabu wagon...he puts 6.75 on his glass and I leave 6.59 on mine...we are now at 4 cars so the winner goes to the final...he lights his top bulb and so do I...then I final stage and wait for him...and wait...and wait...finally he times out which goofs me all up....it turns out he stalled not once but twice...sheesh...bad luck for him...

I come back fir the final round and race a nice chevy twice...we agree to split the money down the middle...he dials 6.27 to my.6.59...my car has printed tickets to 60' and 330' all race...he puts me in the left lane for the first time all day...I leave and then it happens...I spin out of the hole and go 13 numbers high to 60' and 15 numbers high to 330'...sheesh....I have no chance whatsoever and he takes the easy win...qwap!...remember back at the beginning I said I missed out by this much...well he was 35 on the tree and I was.....yup....trip zip...000...I thought the car let me down...they tell me a girl in a dragster who ran after me also spun in the left lane....sigh...it was cool and a lot of dew on the track at 2AM....lol...

So that's the story...we stopped at Denny's on the way home for breakfast...I unhooked my rig and came home to write this...it is now 5:42AM...whew!...I am off to bed...next up is Palm Beach again on June 1st...dad gum track...grrrrr.....lol....

Dan always impresses me with his driving, if only there were no car issues to stymie our efforts. It was a long day, but I must admit, it is way more fun going rounds than being on the trailer after the second. With a little luck, we will have many more long days at the track and maybe even a full chicken dinner reward! Congrats to Dan!

Yup, Mac...this was a very long day...what saved me to some extent was a tip my buddy Rob gave me...he suggested I skip the first time shot to save energy and stay out of the heat a bit longer...it worked and helped me get to sundown and cooler outside temps...having Mike to caravan with helps on the tows...anyway, I will see you on saturday...I am not racing but will be there rootin' you guys on...my last race till September is June 1 at PBIR...

Thanks buddy...it was great to see you going rounds as well and make it to 4 cars...now if we can only get our whips to act right we might hurt some more feelings....lol...

That's gett'n it done Fuz...way to go.

And I agree. I don't know how you do the iron man thing.....either starting at 5am or finishing at 5am. I get up at say 6:30am, and roll in at 6 or 7 after a day of racing and I feel like I can barely make it to the front door.

Great job Dan. I know one thing. I watched you to the end. And about 3 in the morning I climbed into the RV and passed out. Until the next race.

Not only could I not make it through a day (and night) like that, but upon getting home, no way would I be able to write so well. I’d be passed out face down on the bed. I enjoy reading you exploits. With Englishtown closed, I’m in retirement. Atco is too far and I’m still trying to drum up the enthusiasm to take another shot at Island dragway. Thanks for sharing your stories.
