I'm seriously considering selling my tripower carb setup, then moving to some type of fuel injection system. Are there any good books out there on this subject?
What's the difference between open and closed loop systems? Any specific systems I should be looking at? Engine will be 496 to 540 cube around 550 hp.
A closed loop system uses an O2 sensor to provide feeback to the ECM as to the A/F ratio. An open loop system does not utilize an O2 sensor and relys on the coolant temp sensor, throttle sensor, MAP sensor, etc to 'lookup' the appropriate A/F ratio. Clsoed loop systems operate in open loop during wamrup until specific parameters are met like coolant temp, etc and the exhaust temps reach apporx 600f. Heated O2 sensors are available which can reduce the amouynt of time the system operates in open loop for emissions and fuel economy reasons.
there is a pretty good boot out by Motorbooks called about efi. I can't remember the exact name, it's subtitled Installing, Modifying, tuning Electonic Fuel Injection Sytems or somehting. I have it at home, I'll post the name when I get home if no one else does. It's pretty a pretty decent book. It covers various OEM EFI systems as well as several of the popular aftermarket setups and even includes sections of forced induction applications.
If you jst need a good, easy to use EFI system the Holley 950 system seems like a good deal. They even offer a complete kit including a manifold. etc for BBC's. It's abotu $3200 I think, not bad, when you consider it's pretty complete.
"How to tune and modify CHEVROLET FUEL INJECTION" author is Ben Watson. It's part of the Motorbooks Power Tech series. Mine is dogeared with grease smudges-so yea it's a good one.
Besides the one listed above, another good one is "Fuel Injection Installation, Performance Tuning, Modifications - Installing and Modifying Modern Injection Systems for Ultimate Performance" by Jeff Hartman. It's a Powerpro Series book by MBI Publishing. ISBN: 0-87938-743-2.
