Mothballing an engine
IDK if this is the right place to post it but idk where it belongs.
Does anyone know how to mothball an engine. I am taking the original motor out of my vette and want to keep it just in case i sell it for any reason down the road. Does the motor have to be in running condition to mothball it?
Thanks

IMO if it is in "running condition" with plans to moth ball it the water system should be flushed and then pressure checked before being filled with a mixture that includes a good rust preventive. Then I would at least change the oil and filter with a weight heavy enough weight to retain a film on the metal surfaces
I would lighten up in my valve lash and keep plugs in the motor with oil on the threads. You should turn it over by hand every so often and personally I would adapt a primer shaft to a drill and once a year prime the oil system before turning the motor over with the plugs removed
This is just my 02 and someone with more experience in storing motors may have something more or different to say.
