Default LPE 427 TT vs F/A-18 Hornet on Motortrend TV - SpeedVision

Most people have probably seen the Motor Trend magazine by now but it's on their TV show too.

The 427 TT does 0-60 in less than 1.97 seconds and the 1/4 in 9.2 - the Hornet 0-60 was 3.54 seconds. Whew! Of course the Corvette can't accelerate going straight up or pull 7 g's (the MT writer almost passed out from the G's).

I saw that car run at last years Vette/Viper shootout in San Antonio. In fact it looks like they filmed the dragstrip segments at that track.

Absolutely quiet and smooth... just drive up to the line and do a burnout... no fuss.... no fanfair.... and then.....

BAMMMMMM........

I think I saw him run some 9.40's like it was nothing!

Boost is a wonderful thing!!

Hmmmm.... I wonder what a 540 with about 25 psi would do.....??????

Jim, you wonder what a 540 would do with 25 pounds of boost, only one way to find out. :chevy

I have been thinking about a procharger for my 460 for the next mod. I saw the post Monty put up about a 383 making 800 Hp on pump gas.

Actually, the journalist DID pass out.

Those F-18's are stripped of armament, weaponry, and other dead weight, so they accelerate pretty good. The F-16's that the Air Force uses for the Thunderbirds are similarly stripped down.

I saw that though. I thought the F-18 went to 60 in 3.94 seconds or something. Whatever it was, it was under 4 seconds. When they're launched off an air craft carrier, that time is much less.

But still, under 2 seconds for that Vette? WOW! That's like a 4-wheeled Ducati. Your Vette will accelerate like that if you can put the power down.
What's fun is racing a quick crotch rocket. Especially if you're driving a sleeper. I've done it a few times in my Firebird, which has a lot of torque down low. The guy on the bike looks in his mirrors to see how bad he's dusting you and can't believe you're RIGHT THERE!

Anyway, that was a cool show.
