I’ve been looking at different cars, as my youngest kid needs a car for college now, so I’ve been looking, granted I always thought a corvette for a first car was dumb, but lots of responsible kids are out there, granted they all screw around at some point driving, but to the point the price point on decent corvettes are lower than Camaros and mustangs with much more miles it seems..maybe covid has really done more damage than I thought, or corvettes are just harder to sell, being more of a niche category maybe ? Know it wasn’t ever that way before…anyone else notice this,? I’ve seen older Gt mustangs with over 100k miles selling for more than a nice C5 or right about the same..
I am going to get blown up for this but I think the corvette has come such a long ways that when a guy goes to the next model, the desire to go back isnt there like maybe with a mustang. Also, for a long time, every camaro and for sure mustang was turned into a drag car so the number of unmolested examples is probably less than some of these corvettes.
Kid cars need to say Honda or Toyota. They are disposable tools. Not so in a few years. Cars are either tools or image cars. Are you providing a tool or an image?
kids can have whatever image they want when they can earn it. Plus if you pick it you always have to fix it.
Corvettes are expensive to maintain repair and insure. They eat tires and brakes to get that great performance and they get beat up on the crappy roads.

I dont find corvettes anymore expensive to own or maintain than any other sports car. Maybe cheaper perhaps. I was going to respond to the 9-1 comment but no sense in arguing.
“The Brad” commercial, along with the words in a few songs (“All the guys with fast cars seem too old to drive them”) etc, etc. Sorry fellas, but Vette’s have a stigma these days. “Mid life crisis”, “Wants to be seen as rich, but can’t afford a Ferrari”, etc, etc. Yes, this coming from a Corvette guy. Most Vette’s actually are driven by old men. Old men that wear Vette shirts, Vette hat’s, have a Vette keychain and coffee mug. It says “hey, look at me! I own a Vette. I’m special cause I got a Vette”! I never bring up Vette’s unless someone else does. I would never wear or own anything with a Vette logo on it. I’ve told family members “please do not buy me a gift that has something to do with Vette’s, unless it is a part for the car”. Some get this, some do not. So, that is why certain Vette’s are depreciated, in my opinion. Nobody wants to be seen as “The Brad”, The “Hey I got a Vette” douche.

Yes, you are correct. Pre-owned Corvettes really are a bargain these days. There's nothing "dumb" about a responsible kid owning a Corvette. One of my Corvette friends , age 21, recently got a supercharged C7 Corvette. He's responsible and is a good driver, and he also owns a V-6 Camaro and a Nissan 240 SX as well as having driven around in his grandfather's Charger R/T. The key is "responsible", as some young people are and others aren't.
