I smell gas in the garage for a week or two after I drive my '66.
I have a Holley carb and I'm thinking maybe I put vacuum caps over the vent tubes after the engine is fully cooled down.
That way, there will be less evaporation. I'd remove the air cleaner and put red electrical tape on them so that I will hopefully never forget to remove them.
See any safety concern with having the vent tubes capped like that while the car is "stored"?
Nothing wrong with doing that, but honestly dont think the smell is coming from there. I have a pretty stout 383 and i dont smell anything after i drive it. And my car is a hot rod in every sense. So id be looking at the entire car to make sure its not something else (like maybe a fuel line or filter thats seeping but not necessarily leaking). Good luck!
Well, now that you say that, the gas tank does have a vent. I installed a new gas tank and then installed a Walbro electric fuel pump. That tank has a vent. So, that might be a source for some smell.
However, this post is several weeks old. I went ahead and started doing this.
The issue with the gas smell is pretty much gone. It was the modern gas evaporating out of the carb - probably.
