OK, I recently bought a 383 shortblock that already had a PJ gear drive installed. While switching cams I took the gear drive out and now forgot exacly how it goes back in. Ok, so there are the two idler gears, ones smaller in diameter and another is slightly larger. Which way do the idler gears install? If your facing the front of the engine does the bigger "power" driven gear install on the left or right? Also, I don't know what to call it but there are the two "dowel pins" that the gears ride on, one has a cone shape to it the other is flat. does the cone shaped part face toward the inside of the block or the outside? I'm confused. Thanks for the help!

as for the cone side, You got me there, I am not too sure anymore, I would sugest calling Summit, They should either A: know off the top of their head, or B: be able to get the directions and read them to you.

As I remember it (I installed mine about 3 years ago...) the "cone" points towards the block. The cone is what holds the gear in the correct alignment as the rotation of the gear-drive would force the gears towards the block. The directions tell you to grind off small increments of the cone untill you have the gear-drive in the correct alignment.

P.S. If you can't find directions I may be able to find mine if they are still in my shop...I tend to save directions/instructions on all my speed equipment

The cone shape goes towards the block and should be ground off to gain a .015-.060" clearance.
