I got a 69 350/300hp engine..all stock, with original qjet and ramhorn exhaust manifolds. I'd like to upgrade the intake, cam, and carb without making any other mods...keeping the stock heads and exhaust manifolds, unless cam decision calls for headers (which can be no problem) can run a high rise intake too since i got an L88 hood...I'm looking for good street performance, a solid 13 second car if i took it to the track and has nice powerful sound coming from the sidepipes? any advice ?? thanks.
13 sec? gears.....think gears, as much as you can live with. if you keep the exh manifolds, the LT-1 cam would be a good choice....the Q jet will flow plenty for that 350 if properly setup, but a 700 or 750 DP Holley would be a simple way to go.... on a LT-1 intake, or an aftermarket copy.
I'm guessing that you want to keep the engine visually orignal? You didn't mention auto/manual? Here's my .02 for 4 sp.
CC 262 H or next cam smaller w/auto. Not sure of your heads flow#s. !.6 rollers could add power and do lower temps when using AC.
Preformer or RPM Air gap if heads are pocket ported, use drop base under filter
Have Lars "The Man" tweak you Q-jet and dist.
If you are willing to remove heads to port, tighten quench "piston to head" to .040.
If you don't have duals, GET THEM!
There are members on this forum who have the recipe for speed no matter what you run. You might send more info. Mine is a general hop up that is not radical enough to have a downside.
Visually..i'm not worried about original...just want more performance and sound :D anyways, I'll be running a high rise intake..like a RPM Performer, comp cams XE262, and a Holley 650 mechanical secondary double pumper. I got a 4 speed car, so the cam and carb can be used with the stock heads. As for the exhaust manifolds...I can use them, but I would then free up more horsepower using headers, which is probably what i'll do.
