Just a question, though...any thoughts to spraying the car with the rear wing removed (and then add it afterward)? I'd be afraid of the paint not adhering at the joint between the wing and the deck lid (particularly since you are doing a complete color change).

One more question...what color interior are you going with? Vinyl or cloth?

Keep up the good work, I'm enjoying this thread!
Hey, as far as interior, I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with black, but thats not set in stone yet, and for the material, I've not decided yet, it will all come down to the price.

Well, if that is the case, its custom now, but I did look up a VIN site and it said Trans Am and Formula shared the same code, not sure how accurate it was though.

I'll leave it to the pros, I want it to look nice. I'd have to buy the painting equipment and it wouldn't be worth it for the little painting I might do.The decals look good, hopefully this weekend the weather will be nice for painting for you.

Hey Mike,
Did you paint the engine compartment and underside of the hood the same way? That would be awsome when you pop the hood to look at those new chrome valve covers

Gloss black looks BAD!
Don't be so hard on yourself, I thought it looked pretty good. Just kidding, It's looking very nice, I know black shows every little imperfection but the pics look great.

Mike thanks for this very cool and informative thread. I now understand why GOOD BODY work cost as much as it does. The amount of work and time is just unbelievable to bring a car to that kind of condition. Christian is a lucky young man and is going to have a AWESOME car when this project is finished. I would really like to see that car in person when your done. Great job you two

Looks Good Mike !!! How many coats did you put on it? Are you going to color sand and buff?

1 gal. grey Hy build
1 gal. black Hi Build
3 coats base.
2 coats clear.

I color sanded the base with 600 grit which left a extreemly smooth surface. Having your clear mixed correctly, and having all the settings on your gun set correctly minimizes orange peel. I can lay that clear down real smooth. No need to sand or buff. Ive been paintin' cars since I was a teen ager. And look, this paint job I did in my home garage. I have no trash at all in the black paint or the clear

WOW! This is fantastic! Christian, you are so incredibly lucky! This really makes me want to go out to the garage and paint the bumpers on mine. I'm so afraid of color matching though .

Superb job guys! IMO it looks better than a paint job on a spankin' new car

Man that thing looks really nice. I was thinking about going with a black on my '78, but have decided to go with a Hugger Orange and black. I wish I had your painting skills, or painting skills period.
