Default 71 Camaro RS Project (pics)

0331Marine & myself are embarking on a new project: We just bought a 1971 Camaro RS to restore.. We love the split-bumper cars and this is a lifetime CA car, built in Van Nuys... As you can see, we have our work cut-out for us--wish us luck!!

Congrats on your 71 Split Bumper Camaro. Love those cars. Yours looks to be in pretty good shape.

What are the plans? Keep us posted. Merry Christmas,

After the car got to my house we started to take the interior apart that was pretty much the end of day one.

The next morning we started to redo the wiring in the car.
What it looked like when we started

Looks like I am having so much fun...

Really goes alot faster when you have a helping hand

End of day one. Not as much of a mess. We got the tail light group, headlight group, column group, and the ignition switch done. No much wiring left to do.

Today was pretty much spent trying figure out what type of gauges we wanted to use and trying to find them.

Next update will be the install of the new dash and gauges. Then the motor..

You "left coasters" are SO lucky when it comes to older cars. Here in the snow belt, where I live, and they use road salt, we haven't seen any '71 Camaros since '76-'77....

Yeah--a car out here doesn't qualify as "old" until at least 40 years..

How come it needs all the rewiring? It is a nice looking Camaro for sure though.

The last owner ordered a new harness. Once he ordered it, he thought it would be a good idea to cut the stock one off right at the firewall and from there it was a wire cutting party for him.... I'm heading out to mess with it now. The Autometer gauges and the new bezel are here now!!!! New pictures will be up tonight!

OK here we go again. Not alot in this one.

We have 90% of the wiring done. We got the starter, distributor, and neutral safety switch done.

This is Greg taking what was left of the old wiring harness off.

As you can see, the car does have a motor in it. The motor in it has an over heating problem so its coming out and the one I built is going in. It also has another major problem NO POWER!!!!

The new bezel and Autometer gauges.

Test fit. I think they look great!!!

Well thats all for now. We just ordered the dash pad, center console, shift plate, door sills, carpet, rear sail panels, and door panels. See you guys next time!!!!

Best of luck. I'm sure you're enjoying yourself!! I picked up a '71 Camaro RS/SS seven years ago and have been driving/fiddling ever since. Put a new 350 and Tremec 5-speed in it three years ago. Had it in the shop today getting new headers hooked up to the exhaust system. I congratulate you on all that wiring. I'm not sure that's something I would want to tackle on that car.

It's not as much fun as my Vette, but it gets up and goes nicely.

Yeah it does suck. Lucky for me its not the first one I have done. The hard part is coming up. I have to tape up all the wires.......

Nice car, and nice choice on the guages. I'd like to know how much you paid too. Looking forward to watching the process of getting the car back on the road.

Thanks man. We are still waiting on the interior to come in. We are at a stand still until the dash gets here. Once we have the dash, we will get it put in with the gauges. Then I have to get the motor thats in it running and pull it in the garage and do the motor swap. I'll do an update once it all gets here. I am hoping it comes today.

As far as the price goes I cant disclose that at this time...
