Default Driveshaft yoke engagement length

Long story, but working on a 1970 Z28 - swapping from original TH400 to Muncie 4 spd. Previous restorer's skills unknown - when I pulled the driveshaft the front yoke is a long passenger car type not the usual stubby Camaro type so it was a red flag - I measured the shaft and it is only 48" ctc. Anyway - got the Muncie all installed - I have a spare 2nd Gen Camaro shaft with the smaller Muncie yoke - it is 1/2" longer ctc (48.5") with the correct 5" yoke. BUT here's the question - when I install it I've only got 1" into the back splines of the trans with 4" of shiny yoke showing. That seems wrong to me. What is the minimum?
