FWIW my mechanic and good friend advised against me getting a C4, based mostly on the LT1, but also because of parts availability with other key components, like the HVAC control unit.
It's worth nothing. The HVAC control units never go bad, and remanufactured units are available. The LT1 was only in the C4 from 92-96. Did your good friend miss the fact that the 84 was a cross fire 350, and 85-91 were L98s with tuned port injection and HEI distributors (extremely reliable) for all the engines available from 84-91? Love the CFOT. Almost nobody in this section knows a ******* thing about cars, let alone corvettes.
**** can add up on these ole Vettes, which is why I'm hesitant to even get into a C5Z. I'm still kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on this back when I was seriously looking at newer C4's. It was a '96 with only 40k that I could have gotten for $8500.

Some 20 years ago, I changed out the engine in my '72 and put in a '89 truck roller block and L98 heads.....headers, H pipe Maggy-flo muffs....AND later on about 16 years ago got a LT-4 induction, 24? lbs injectors took the manifold over to a welder buddy, and we/HE spliced on the *** end of a old carb intake manifold, so I could run HEI up top in back the way GOD intended, as we all know sparks and water do not mix.....and of course the entire thing is run with #1227730 speed density computer and aftermarket chip for less than 100 bux...back then.....I put a rack in the car before any kits were out, hydro boost brakes for proper stopping, built my own 200 4r trans instead of the Muncie ....for the cheapest way to overdrive....
