correct finish on L98 valve covers (and 92 LT1's) - ???
does anyone know how to refinish valve covers on 84-92 corvettes. i know several places sells paint to topcoat, but the original factory finish was some sort of sandy-textured finish. i have a bare metal set needing needing refinished, so has anyone correctly refinish theirs??? process??? TIA -

I went through this last winter when I restored my car, and I ended up having everything powdercoated. The color was as close to the original as I could get, plus then they clear coat everything. I did the intake, plenum, runners, alternator, water outlet neck, and brackets. The only things I couldn't do was the AC compressor, and AIR pump. I had my paint guy do those, and he matched the paint perfect to the powdercoat.

The 84 had a one year only finish I think and starting in 85 it went with a textured off silver, regardless the junk that the Corvette places are selling is nothing more than silver paint from what Ive seen.It would take some doing but I think the stock finish can be duplicated, the only problem is that with age the stock finish discolors and the only way to get the exact finish would be to find an N.O.S part and go from there.
