Default 62 Vette valve covers

I have a 327/300 and the paint on the valve covers is rather faded. I bought a can of engine block spray paint to repaint the covers but I was told by an appraiser that I should leave them as is for orginiality purpose.

Any thoughts?

This is not for any judging, but I do like to keep the car original.

Unless the car is mostly original and you have it up for sale as such, I'd go ahead and paint the valve covers - a correctly-detailed fresh engine compartment has more appeal to most folks than one that shows its age. It's your car, your call.

If you paint the valve covers, are you going to be happy with the way the intake manifold, the exhaust manifolds, the block, and the engine compartment now look? Do these valve covers have dents in them? New paint will make the dents stand out. You'll need new gaskets and decals.
