Default Pulling the steering wheel

I plan on replacing the blinker switch in the 68 tomorrow which will require pulling the steering wheel hub. From the looks of the attaching nut it's been on for a long time. Are there any tricks of the trade when pulling the hub? Things I need to be wary of? Thanks.

It should be rather straight forward on a 68. Its very simple like the old ones.

68:
You might make note of the hubs indexed position, in case it has been previously positioned incorrectly then recentered by an alignment.
Also I recently replaced this assembly on a 69 tilt/tele with a reproduction and found an inconsistency in a square hole within the mechanism that would not allow installation of a factory component. For the life of me I can't remember which piece did not fit correctly, sorry.
Good luck

Turn signal switch replaced! What I thought was going to be a pain turned out simple. The nut came right off. The steering wheel popped right off after a little tug. Took note of how everything was lined up. One of the switches ears had broken off. Pulled connector pins out of the half circle connector. Took off the turn signal lever and hazard ****. Took out the 3 screws that held the switch. Pulled all the wiring up through the column.
Switch out! Put all the connector pins back in the proper order using new switch as guide. Pulled the new switch's connector pins and threaded back down column. Lined everything back up and fastened down. Put connector pins back in place using old switch as guide. While in the column took the opportunity to spray the top bearing with a little white lithium grease.

Now to crawl under the dash and replace a push button type brake light switch with a 68 lever type brake switch.

Underdash has to be one of the least comfortable places to try to do business! Especially if you 'blessed' like me with combination of a 'standard' steering column (ie: no tilt / telescope) and a rather large body (legacy of a misspent youth of bodybuilding). Since none of my dashlights are working, my horn has died and, for whatever reason, my right turn signal is constantly flashing (front only) despite whatever position the indicator is in, I think I'm gonna have to pull off the steering wheel and do some digging around. sigh.... :nonod:

Consider yourself lucky, because you didn't need a steering wheel puller. :) Chuck

I guess I had a pretty productive weekend! One turn signal switch replaced. A brake light switch replaced and I got around to installing all those 68 grill brackets where I could install the parking lamps to see if it all worked.
