Default Corvette Build Dates

I recently purchased a 1972 LT-1 Convertible. Judging by the VIN, it was "born" late in the last month of production. Does anyone know if GM kept records of build date/quantity of Corvettes by what type of engine the car had. Just curious if I possibly have the last or one of the last LT-1's built.

Any input would be helpful, Thanks!

GM usually kept records of final monthly serial numbers, but may not have kept records of the VIN of the last LT-1 or other options combinations. The last June car was #25226; final July car was #27004.

One of the guys in my Club has book, I think its called the Corvette Birthday Book. You look up the year of the car and the last 5 numbers of the Vin. And it will give you the Born On Date. I don't remember where he got it, maybe from the NCRS or Corvette Museum.... There are 110 members in the club, I don't remember who had the book..

In '72 Chevy built 31,004 Vettes
6,508 were Convertibles
1,741 were LT-1's
1,648 had the 4-speed's
14,543 had the Auto Trans
17,011 had Air Cond.

If you need any other Info just ask... A good book to get is the "CORVETTE BLACK BOOK"

You don't need to buy the "Birthday Book", you can get the information for free at:

Time/Build date is good enough for most folks.
