I took my 69BB to Roger's corvette yesterday for an appraisal. The car is a No hit very original 427 car according to roger .. The biggest hit was the paint . It has some small bubbles on the hood and the luggage rack repair hole are showing. Aside from the problem the paint is smooth with no orange peel and all of the trim was removed beforehand so there are no tape edges and in general it looks great. This is the only repaint and he called it a "ten footer". The door jamb areas have never been repainted so the lables and data plates have not been taped over. The car has A/C pb ps pw tilt tele. I have the tank sticke that shows all of the inportant stuff. The interior is all original even the carpet. There are a few little issues with the vinyl trim. Everthing works even the windshield washers. Roger said due to the paint and the fact that the front feners have been trimmed very slightly at the lower rear, he coul only Appraise it at 20k. I know what he is saying but I cannot find any original 427 cars with almost everthing there anywhere close to 20.. What's the story..
Ten to fifteen years ago I thought that '68-'72 BB vets (the more options the better) would take off in value but that has not been the case. Why not?????
Production numbers???
I'd trade my '67 for a '70 or '71 in a heartbeat except I can't see out of a C3,
because I'm short (5'-5").
If you look at Pro team or Corvette mike or any other dealer you will find the price much higher. Classic car trader on line also is much higher. Even NADA book is higher. Virtualy every aution bears this out too... While I realise that auction prices are over priced ro the most part the cars still sell at these prices. I my car were to be totaled or stolen I doubt that the insurance conpany would care if I couldn't find a similar car for thr 20k Roger appraised it at. Roger also told me to take plenty of pictures as a reference. I value Rogers opinion but then he is a dealer.
I would never take my car to dealer to have it appraised. Dealers have an agenda, quote wholesale, sell retail. Now if the car needs paint, that's a big ticket item that's going to significantly reduce the $ value.
If your interested in an unbiased opinion take it to an independent appraiser, someone who doesn't have a vested interest in the car's value. Even with an independent you have to be careful as they tend to place a higher value than you would expect but if your doing it for insurance purposes that's not necessarily a bad thing. :chevy
Well the paint is not that bad, just not pristine trailor queen quaity. It is about 4 years old and it is shiny and smooth with no orange peel. There are a few small problems. I drive my car every day and get compliments on it all the time.
I'm frankly surprised at the low appraisal. Was it actually a "current value appraisal", used for insurance purposes/replacement value, or a "used car" valuation IF you were going to trade the car in at his dealership? Chuck
No ... I asked roger for an appraisal for insurance purposes. He really talked the car up and said that it was one of the nicest driver's he'd seen lately. The biggest prodlem was the paint. The Problems are obvious if you look closey but most people don't notice.

:iagree:
Most of the appraisels I've seen for insurance purposes have been more optimistic than fair market value. I think you were getting the old "trade-in value" :bs rather than a true appraisal. If you were to trade it in, I'm sure they wouldn't waste any time parking your car out on their lot with a $30K sticker on it.
