Skips' Fiesta Drive in

Beat me you can eat me
This was NOT urban legend and she did not have a bumper sticker. Her name was Barbara and she worked in the office at Zepelak Chevrolet. I knew her because they sponsored my drag car before Wally Zepelak sold the dealership to Nick Celozzi and Maurie Ettelson. No bumper sticker - she put it on the quarter panels of her 64 Chevelle with white shoe polish.
I was there with my race car on that fateful night when the state police came and arrested everyone in sight. Fortunately I did not get shut down in time to go into the Polk Brothers parking lot but went into the restaurant at the next light. I saw the troopers come in by the dozens and form a perimeter, arresting everyone inside - six school busses came to haul away those arrested and a fleet of tow trucks hauled all the cars away.
No urban legend - it happened and I was there; and I knew Barb.
QUOTE=Mopar Jimmy;1575155808]Heard TON of stories about Skips but am too young to remember those good old days but LOVE the Nostalgic era of the classic 60 and very early 70 muscle cars, especially that Nostalgic drag racing era, and this why I bring my 1969 440 ci Plymouth Road Runner to 85% of the many cruise nights I attend each summer.
Would have LOVED to live in that era and I bet you guys who remember these hey days remember the one chick who had a super fast car, and she had a bumper sticker on it that said "If you can beat me you can eat me."
I have heard that story countless times from the cruise night guys I hang out with at the local cruise nights and I heard she did not lose many races!
I bet several of you remember her and who can recalls what type of car she drove? [/QUOTE]

I remember the night the cops shut down Skips and towed all the cars. I wasn't there that evening most likely I was at Marc's Big Boy in Glen Ellyn, Il
I think she drove a T Bird when in Calf. here is a picture.

Dan - Great pic! Who DIDN'T fall in love with Suzanne Sommer's in American Graffitti??
Here's another shot - unfortunately once again just before it's demolition. Someone in this world has to have a great shot - maybe even in color - of when Skip's was in its heyday. Anyone?

Harry - THANKS for this post. It's great to hear from an original Skips guy that knows so much about its heyday. Cheers!!

I bet we spent more time at Russell's Barbecue in Elmwood Park "up da street" as it was easier to get a spot and featured plenty of hyjinx...

She was a smoking hot brunette, and she knew it. her first name was Lynn, I'll not reveal the last name.
Her brother said she only ever lost 2 races, the motor broke on a missed shift and the trans failed.
