SHELBYVILLE — The Shelby County Board voted Wednesday morning to reaffirm a 15-year-old resolution in support of the Second Amendment, rather than adopting a measure to become a “sanctuary county” for gun owners.

On Wednesday, congressional Democrats introduced bills to the House and the Senate that would establish a “system of licensing for purchasers of certain firearms” and “a record of sale system for those firearms” that would create a national registry for firearm sales and transfers in the United States and broadly prohibit the sale or transfer of guns to anyone without a federal license.

Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL) introduced the House version of the bill, H.R. 6024, while Sen. Tammy Duckworth (also of Illinois) introduced the Senate version of the bill, S. 3002.

Williamson County to let voters decide whether it should be a sanctuary for gun owners

https://thesouthern.com/news/local/w...ome-the-latest

MARION — The Williamson County Board of Commissioners have decided it will leave it up to the voters of the county to join a movement by several other counties in the state to become a gun sanctuary county.

Jim Marlo, Williamson County Board of Commissioners chairman, said the board voted to place a question on the ballot about passing a resolution to become a gun sanctuary county. He said the question hasn’t been formulated and the board has until August to figure out exactly what the question should be.

He said the results of the election will determine the resolution outcome.

“Letting the residents of Williamson County decide is our goal,” he said. “Not just the opinion of three people on a board.”

PELKIE, Mich. (WLUC) - The Ottawa Sportsmen’s Club and Baraga County Republican Party will be hosting a gun rights rally on Saturday, July 7th at the Ottawa Sportsmen’s Club in Pelkie. The event will take place between 1 and 3 p.m. Guest speakers include numerous candidates, local gun rights activists, and a representative from the National Rifle Association.

“We feel that our Second Amendment rights are under attack and think it’s time to speak up and do something about it,” said Brenda Turunen, Vice President of the Ottawa Sportsmen’s Club.

“I think it’s clear that Yoopers overwhelmingly support the right to bear arms,” said event coordinator Jake Putala. “I’m calling on all second amendment supporters to show up and make your voices heard.”

This event is free to attend and open to the public. Refreshments will be available. The Ottawa Sportsmen’s Club is located at 11075 State Highway M-38 in Pelkie.

A “gun sanctuary” trend spreading across Illinois counties in support of Second Amendment rights has raised questions about just who is allowed to decide what is or isn’t constitutional where guns are concerned.

At least 26 of Illinois’ 102 counties have passed “gun sanctuary” resolutions or similar measures. The term is a play on the phrase “sanctuary city,” which describes cities where political and law enforcement leaders limit their cooperation with federal immigration policies and vow to protect immigrant rights.

“Gun sanctuary” advocates say they, too, deserve protection — from lawmakers in the capital pushing for stricter laws on firearms.

So, proponents went to their County Board members and asked them to pass “gun sanctuary” resolutions. In some cases, the resolutions are designed to send a message to Springfield, and in other cases, they promise county employees won’t enforce gun control laws they consider “unconstitutional.”

A Cook County judge dropped a handgun while inside the lobby of a courthouse on Chicago’s South Side last week and was charged with a misdemeanor after the incident was seen on video, authorities said.
Judge Joseph Claps, 70, was charged with a Class B misdemeanor for allegedly carrying a concealed weapon in a prohibited area.

Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner (R) signed a bill on Monday to extend a 72-hour mandatory waiting period for all firearm purchases.

The governor also signed into law so-called “red flag” protections, which allows family members or police to seek a court order for guns to be confiscated from individuals deemed “an immediate or present danger” to themselves or others.

Rauner did, however, say he would veto legislation that would have created new inspection protocols for stores that sell guns.

The Republican called on the General Assembly to send him other measures to restrict gun violence, including a ban on fire-enhancing bump stocks.

All officers in our state have no issues with CCW. First, they already consider everyone to be possibly armed anyways (even before we became a CCW state). Second, the officers like it when the first thing a CCW person says to them during a stop is "I'm carrying a concealed weapon" while handing them their permit (it's law that you have to do this). It would be nice if the criminal element (who can't legally carry - but do anyways - would announce to police that they have a weapon at the very beginning of a stop).

Please keep this thread updated, as I would like to know if/when this passes. A fellow Corvette owner friend who lives in Indiana ,,, tries to avoid Illinois during road trips, as there's no CCW reciprocity.

From Ohio, and glad to see this.

... how do you think the Police feel about conceal carry firearms? Its a cops worst nightmare. Everyone and their mom packing a gun. It makes a Police Officers job even more dangerous than it already is.
