Default Indy 500 hotels for 2012

After talking about attending the Indy 500 for several years, I finally bought tickets for next year. Turn 4 tickets, lot 1B parking. Any suggestions as to where to stay? Planning on arriving Saturday and leaving Tuesday just in case there's a rain delay. Not looking for 4-star accomodations but prefer large-chain hotel, motel within easy driving distance from track. Driving our C6 from Napa, CA for our yearly ROAD TRIP! Then maybe next, next year attend the Brickyard 400.

Grew up in Indianapolis 1957-62 and attended St Anthony's parochial school. Is St Anthony's still operating? Never attended the race when the family was there and really did not know much about it till adulthood.

I have never heard of St. Anthony's so I would say its not open anymore.

As for hotels, check out this one.

$65▼Comfort Inn & Suites Airport‎
5855 Rockville Road
Indianapolis, IN 46224

If its just for a few nights and you want to hang out with drivers at the hotel bar stay at the Conrad.

I work the NW side and know of a few decent hotels. Keep in mind most of them are worried about lawsuits and there are a few to stay away from. Most do not put exterior cameras outside and alot of out of state plates fall pray to vehicle theft and larceny from. The area on the SE side is nice, County Line Rd, Southport Rd, etc.

I went to this years Indy 500.
The 100th anniversary.
Place I stayed (motel) was a major dump. (pm if you want info)
Great race weekend and a great time though.

During the F1 races at Indy (2000-2007), we rented a house across the street from the Speedway, directly outside of turn 1. It was great...having breakfast while hearing the crews warming up and tuning the F1 engines.
