Indy Area Apartments
Anyone live in the Indy area that can point out a good area to rent apartments? I have a niece who is going to start school there soon and she's having trouble finding a place to stay that is in a safe area. Any help would be appreciated. Looking to be in the $500-600 per month range.

Might be tough in the 500-600 range. Send me the names of what she is looking at and I might be able to tell you. Best to stay clear of anything too close to the center.

I don't know those specific apartments but that area will be hit or miss. Just south of there and east or west of it are going to be some sketchy areas. I doubt she would ever feel safe walking that area at night.

Try looking at these. These are SE side and in good areas, both close to I65. I live on this side of town and they call this area cop town for a reason.

These are three I pass on a regular basis. I can't speak for the staff but I have known people who have lived in 2 of the 3. That has been a while but both people liked them while they were there. The area around these three places is about as safe as you can get in a larger metro area.

Understandable. In this area there won't be much for $500 that is going to be in a nice area. She could try going south to Greenwood, still easy access to 65 which would take her right up into the city by campus. Does she have any friends going there as well? They may want to team up and be roomies.

We have a few nice apartment communities here in Greenwood. Between Sheek Rd. and Smith Valley Rd. is real nice. Walking trail, close to food, gas, interstate, shopping, golf course. Also, just a few minutes from "The Suds", (best cruise-in around).
I live in this area, I know it's good.

That is the one apartment complex I would warn against moving to.
There's been bad problems there for decades. Keep looking!

The poor kid can't afford much and like everywhere the lower the rent the higher the problems. She can afford $500 a month but toward $600 is pushing it. She most likely won't be able to work or work very little in the program she's entering. It's supposed to be very intense and they advised against her working while in the program.

As all have said, $500-600 is going to be hard to find in a nicer area without somehow finding a room mate to share expenses of utilities and rent.
My daughter also goes to IUPUI as a grad student. She has a room mate and a two bedroom apartment at River Road Apartments, basically at 96th and Keystone on the north side. For a two bedroom they each pay $400. Its a nice area and takes her about 20 min drive to IUPUI
