Rebuilt Differential / Install Service in Metro Detroit Area
I am exploring swapping out my 98 C5 A4 convert 2.73 differential for a 3.42 unit. While going further like a lot of others posts suggest and getting a slush box (and other goodies) at the same time sounds appealing, I need to keep this as a simple swap to keep costs down. Just looking to wake this thing up a bit.
Two questions here: does anyone have a good recommendation on where I could get a used (or rebuilt) 3.42, and if/when I get one, who would you recommend locally for the install? I live on the west side (Wst Bloomfield area) in case that info helps.
Thanks in advance for any leads you can provide.

Anybody? Anybody? Wow - quiet crowd! ;-)
I was able to pick up from other posts that Kennys Lakes Area Auto Experts in Walled Lake is a good source for Vette work. I visited there and sure enough they had a C5 up on a hoist doing a diff swap out. Now, I still need to find me a good 3.42 unit - how about a little help?

AES Corvette Parts is down by the airport. I bought a C5 Z06 diff from them a couple of months ago. Unfortunately you never know if the clutches or belleville washers are good unless you have someone go through it. In fact, chances are that unless it's been rebuilt very recently, it's probably going to need to be rebuilt.
Talk to Kenny at the shop and he can give you some options. He has contacts at RPM and other drivetrain specialists.
