Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 150 by 150 pixels or 29.3 KB (whichever is smaller).

I use MS Paint. The dimensions are right at the bottom of the "Edit Avatar" page under the User CP tab.

Look into
IrfranView . Free, very capable (basic photo adjustment tools, not just resizing), and supports a ton of image, video, and audio formats (doesn't edit video or audio, but will play them).

I always liked Microsoft Photo Editor (Came with MS Office 2000 and eariler) or the cool Image Resize PowerToy (lets you right click and resize images on the fly without opening up an app)

For this forum you don't have to resize, it is done automatically for you when you upload the image.

I downloaded Irfranview and resized the pics but they're still waaaaaaaay too big. What format should I be saving them in? I think they're bmp's right now. On photobucket they show up as jpgs...
Will, I've not been able to get it to resize for me... is there a secret handshake I don't know about?

You could just pay me to make your avatar for you. I already have my own avatar machine.

Pssttt... if you are having that much trouble, put the pic into PowerPoint, resize it, right click and then "save image as"... use .jpg.
I'll be sending you a bill for my consulting services
