Default OT: having to repeatedly log in

OK, WTF is going on here???? Each time I refresh the screen for the C1/C2 forum, I'm having to log in all over again. Just started yesterday (4/4/17). I haven't made any changes to my computer; CF did this all by itself. Very annoying.

And before someone flames me for posting an off-topic subject, know this: I've looked all the Forum (not just C1/C2) and don't see any specific place where I can contact an admin..... ergo this posting.

So, what's going on and how do I get it fixed????

Jim

I am not a computer person at all but I have noticed that when you refresh that it takes away your password not only for CF but other sites as well. Try not refreshing and sign off your computer then sign back on and then log on to CF again and see if you can still get on the CF site. It should be ok. Why would you refresh all the time??

PS- is there a "Remember me?" prompt/box to check on your system when you log in? If so, try using that.

It's the only way I've ever known to show the latest postings. Is there another way?

Yep, I do. Always have. CF just suddenly has amnesia.

This is a cookie issue with your browser.

Details are covered in the following sticky. Although it's about the Style, read the second to last paragraph.

And it shouldn't. Unless you're using sessions (not the Remember Me) and you do the refresh outside of the time limit - approximately 20 minutes from last activity.

Sure is! Go up to the very top right of your screen, find your screen name next to your avatar pic. Click on your screen name, a list of choices will appear. Try using "My Recent posts" or " New posts".

Still happening. I've flushed all CF cookies three times. Works OK for a short while then I have to log in again.

And I want to stress this is new. Just started last evening. Nothing has changed on this computer...... except for the repeated cookie flush.

Something about CF has changed and it's becoming annoying.

Well, "new posts" is worthless. It brought up a list of posts in ALL forums. When I clicked on "My posts", I had to log in again.

So far just doing a screen refresh on the C1/C2 forum is a lot cleaner way..... if I could get CF to STOP having me log in over and over.

If you're using Remember Me option, which is browser cookie-based, and still having the issue then the issue is your end as I have stated. Yup, it might only occur on CorvetteForum because a website uses multiple cookies and generally one site at a time has the issue.

You're either not clearing all CorvetteForum cookies (we're not talking about Temporary Internet files), your browser is deleting cookies upon exit, you're using a 3rd party software that is deleting cookies, or you're logging out. If the issue was on CorvetteForum's server, every single member would have the issue. Not one or ten. Every member.

Nothing new. If you don't use Remember Me, it's a session rather than a cookie that remembers you. If you're not active after 20 minutes have passed, or you close your browse, you're logged out. That hasn't changed in the last 5+ years.

You are right about the problem being cookie related.

And I am right about something having changed at the CF end.

Turns out CF wants to set an additional and new cookie.

Operating at maximum paranoia, I have firefox set to reject cookies except for those from sites I select. People who let their browsers blindly bend over and take in all cookies won't ever have the problem of having to repeatedly log in. They probably also have a gazzillion cookies (+/- 10%) stored on their computers.

Older versions of firefox will gracefully learn to accept this additional cookie. Newer versions aren't as graceful and I'm still working on getting FF to accept one more cookie from CF. So the annoying situation continues.....

CorvetteForum recently switched over to secure HTTP (HTTPS). That's the biggest change I'm aware of within the past week or so.

When running settings outside of normal, or using any 3rd party software that alters the functionality or appearance, such issues are likely to occur.

Cookies don't consume a lot of space. While some aren't required, some are required to remember login information and to remember website preferences, shopping carts, etc,.
