Default Who, When, and Why???

I noticed this morning that our individual "Thanks" and "Thanked" areas have been changed to "Likes" and "Liked".
Being thanked and being liked are very different things in my understanding.
The thanks were unique to the Corvette Forum while the Likes makes it just LIKE every other site, including Facebook.
So I was curious who made this decision to change; when was the decision made; and why does the CF have to be like everyone else?
It may seem small, and I know we have little to no say in how the forum operates, but maybe knowing the difference in the terms would have been a good place to start.
Just my two cents.

From the Help Forum:
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...now-likes.html

I hope they bring it back. Thanking someone for what they said, how they helped, their picture, etc. is just plain being courteous. Nothing wrong with that. OK to have the Like button too; might as well add Agree button since “I Agree” emoji is used often.

Fran, thank you for sharing this link, I missed it.
I believe they made the change to be more like Facebook which, in my opinion, is a mistake.
Thanks again.

Thanks....Giving recognition for or credit for an informative post (e.g. sharing a useful tip or procedure)

Likes...In agreement with or appreciation for (e.g. Red C3's rule or interesting photos)

I believe a Thanks carry more weight and gives a special recognition for a useful post. Likes are a dime a dozen and overused.

Regards,
Tom69

I agree....a thanks is recognizing that someone posted something useful that helped solve a problem. I won't ever use the like button and don't use face book.
Bring the thanks button back

On a related note, I've lost ability to post or access those little icon thingy's, those smiley-face yellow guys. Anyone know how to make that re-appear?

I hit the button ; don't "like" it ! Won't even give you a happy 😊 or mad 😡 icon !
I would "thank you "if you put it back like it was whoever is responsible for changing it!
A thank you just says way more than a like button could ever convey!
Just my 2cents !

I too liked the "Thanks" feature but I will often post a written Thank you in a thread to show my appreciation. I suppose we are old school, many of us on the C3 forum section are.

WE may not have a choice, if the website is supported by a template that uses the like button instead of thanks it may require switching to a different template/support model and cost more money to operate the forum.

Exactly and especially the bolded. I just can't press the "like" button on sites like Twitter when the person post that his grandma died or something like that. Why would I "like" that? IMO these sites need Thanks, Like, Dislike etc. Why does everything need to be so politically correct these days?

It really is a shame that this change has been made. A LIKE certainly isn't the same as a Thank You as others have said. We have so many helpful members on this forum who go out of their way to help others with photos, finding parts, offering suggestions on how to repair or replace things on our cars, etc. I know I've gone out to my garage late at night to take a photo of a particular item that someone had a question about, in order to help them. It made it all worth while to see a Thanks posted by the OP. I guess nothing stays the same forever. If it is a software issue or website issue as Kacy mentions above, then I would think an explanation would be in order from the administrators. JMO!
Hope the Thank You returns!

In a perfect world I would actually want both a 'like' and a 'thank' button since as others have mentioned, they are two different things.

I don't 'like' this either! I would distance myself from FARCEBOOK! I prefer to be THANKED for the help and experience I have developed and give freely...

Frankly, I don't care if you LIKE ME....not here for a popularity contest.

Other websites have this unseemly VOMIT all over them....Here is my FART CAN Equipped Rice Burner, please LIKE me on Farcebook so I can win the Vomit award.

Go back to the way it was!
