Dad's dream is now mine
I am a new member...as I have just became a proud Corvette owner. Really wish I hadn't this soon though. My father passed away in January, 2011 and left his 1974 Stingray to me. This car is beautiful and I will post pictures soon. My dad had dreamed of owning a Corvette since he was a teenager, and he was almost ready to install his custom-built engine when he suddenly became ill. His dearest friend is going to help me finish the car just as my dad had planned. I promised him I would fulfill his dream and I will treasure this car always. I love you dad...you are missed everyday.

I can't wait to take that first drive...I know my dad will be right there with me. Just like the first time he let me drive it, he was there with me with one of the biggest smiles I remember.

Hi Rachelle. Your Dad obviously raised you well
Please keep us posted on the progress on his Corvette. And we'd love to see a picture of you behind the wheel when it's done

Hello Rachelle and welcome to the forum. My brother lost his battle with cancer 3 months ago and he loved our Corvettes as much as we do. While we are sorry for the passing of your dad, we also celebrate with you the joy and the pride of taking over the torch. I'm sure he's very proud of you and his friend for helping. Can't wait to see the fruits of all the work.

Very Nice Stingray
My Father owned a silver 76 that was awesome.
I unfortunately totalled it (a long time ago).
I have his 2000 Convertible that he Loved.
He too, died way too soon. So I keep his joy
rolling down the road for him whenever I can.
Sometimes it is difficult, but I ALWAYS feel him with
me. Silly, it's just a car. But Corvettes are almost always
more than just a car to their owners.
Make sure to update us with your progress and pics too.
It may be hard at times, but persevere. It will be something
you too can pass on to the next generation.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I've been in your shoes in a way..
My father and I finished the restoration on a '74 L-82 coupe When I was a jr in high school. He passed shortly before I graduated on April 22, 2003. I graduated in May.
A year later I got a wild hair up my rear and decided I wanted a steel body muscle car. I traded the turn key '74 for a shell of a Chevelle that needed more work than I realized. A couple years later I sold the Chevelle when I realized just how much of a project it really was.
To this day, I kick myself every time I think about what I did, and it will always remain one of my deepest regrets. I even went back to the house of the man I traded with, but my old car was long gone. Said he sold it to someone in Texas.
I miss that car, and if I ever run across it I will buy it back on the spot.
Moral of the story, don't mess around and get rid of something with such sentimental value

I know your story all to well. My father and I built a 79 from the ground up when I was a teenager. His health declined in his later years and between that and time the car sat in the garage under a cover since 2001. My father passed away December 14 2010 following a car accident on December 6. The car was left to me. I am now bound and determined to get the car back running and looking forward to showing it in his honor. As I have quickly found out there is a long road ahead to make this happen but I will not be defeated. Right off the bat I had a tooth break off the flywheel and now going through the PITA process of pulling the tranny, and what a PITA it is. I'm sorry for your loss and hope you get the car finished. Anything I can do to help feel free to ask. You have come to the right place. A lot of great people hear to help you through your journey!!!
