Default RIP Dad

We lost dad last Saturday to cancer, and we're going to miss him a lot.

Dad taught me to drive stick in a '66 Chevy truck with a 3 on the tree shifter. He taught me that primer gray is a color. He taught me to bait the hook on my cane pole when we went crappie fishing. He taught me how to shoot straight. He definitely did not teach me to wrench on cars as he could strip a fastener faster than he could say "That beats all I've ever seen in my life!" but he did show me enough to plant the seed with me. He definitely taught me to have a good set of tools, as dad would usually start most repairs with nothing more than a crescent wrench, vice grips, and a screwdriver. That's all you need, right? Aside from that, all he did for me, my brothers, and sister was teach us to be the good parents, husbands, wives, friends, and coworkers that we are today. Dad did alright by all of us in that regard.

Dad was an Army veteran and was laid to rest in the National Cemetery in Fort Smith, AR on Wednesday. Cancer took him at 74, but he lived a good life, if not one as long as we would have liked. Dad was a pretty simple soul but he was a good man and I hope I can continue to live up to his name.

We'll miss you Dad.

Mike

I suggest that as time goes on you will state that your dad lives on in those who knew and loved him such as yourself especially as he was a good human being.

I lost my Dad in 2003, but it seems like yesterday. My most heartfelt condolences.

Your tribute to your Dad was well stated and from the heart. You can take solace in knowing his memory, and so he himself, lives through you and your children. Seventy-four is much too young for those left behind who will miss him and his guidance. I am no youngster, but I tell my grandchildren that all that is good in me I owe to my Mother and Father. All that is bad in me, I owe to myself and no one else. May your Dad rest in God’s hands and may his memory be passed on for generations to come. As a vet myself I salute his service and quote something from my generation, “For those that will fight for it, Freedom, has a flavor the protected shall never know”.

Always sad to loose love one, and there isn't anything someone can say to ease the pain. Just remember the time you had together.
