Default New member looking to get a Corvette

Hi,

I'll try and keep this somewhat short as not to bore everyone too much.

I've been reading the forums for a while and finally decided it was time to register. I've learned a good bunch of information in the past couple of months.

Here is my situation. I've decided I want an '08 Corvette (unless the '09's will be vastly superior). I'm torn between a Z06 or doing a C6 widebody kit in order to gain the removable roof. If I go the widebody route, I'd want to do a bunch of additional mods to try and get close to the performance of a Z06. I also think it might be a fun project. However, my concern would be getting the project done correctly (would not be doing the work myself) and the EXTREMELY poor resale potential. If I went for the Z06, I think I'd be pretty satisfied with just a full exhaust, CAI and a tune ( I say that now of course ). Either way, my main interest would be for that of a formidable street machine. I'm not interested in organized track or racing events at this time.

By the way, in order to do ANY of this I'll first need to sell my Shelby Cobra replica (ERA 427). The car is a turnkey from ERA and was built in 2005 with all the good stuff. It has barely 3000 miles. While I love this car, I just don't get to drive it as much as I would like as it can only be driven in good weather and it is not well suited for a daily driver. I'm hoping the car can fetch low $60's.

Anyhow, that's my story. I'll formally put the Cobra up for sale in the Spring and see what happens from there.

Any advice, recommendations or otherwise gladly accepted.

Chris

Aloha and welcome to the CF, on your decision, I would go for the ZO6, reason being that if you were to build a C6 to the performance level of a ZO6 and the body as well then you will be spending close to or over what a ZO6 cost, especially if someone else will be doing the installations.

Good luck on the sale of your ERA Cobra and hope that you get the Vette that you want.

Go with the Z06 - and like you said the other project would result in "EXTREMELY poor resale potential"! If it's Z06 looks and performance that you want . . . get the Z06 (unless it is not financially feasible). But like "HawaiiC6" said, by the time you're finished with the other project, you will have spent almost as much or more than the cost of a Z06.
In any case good luck and welcome aboard!!
Rick

Welcome to the forum! I'm partial to the Z06, so that's the way I would go if I was you. Good luck!

Thank you for the advice!

I'll keep you all posted on the sale of the Cobra. Hopefully it will be a quick one and it's on to the Corvette.

Welcome aboard and with the Z06 route. It sounds like that would be the best fit based on your description. Good luck with whatever you decide. The really good news is that whatever the choice it will be a Corvette.

You guys are great!

Anyone happen to know someone in the market for a well sorted out Cobra replica? It's a red ERA with white racing stripes. Motor is a 427FE stroked to 468CI. Dynoed at 396 rwhp.

Default A Big “HELLO” from Forest Hill, Maryland.

Welcome to the “Corvette Jungle” , where the Vette owners are always restless! I too had considered an ERA Cobra and looked at 4 that were built. I decided I needed a fast sports car that was factory built with new parts and a warranty. It had to have a removable hardtop with heat and airconditioning. I also questioned the resale value of these copies. The other thing was you really don't know the people (their car building ability), that built these cars or the condition of the parts they used. So I drove a Corvette, couldn't stop smiling and bought it. After owning a 08 C6 with plenty of power, I would buy a ZO6, just for more power, if it came with an automatic. I am 65 and the legs aren't as strong as they used to be. So have fun, I do....
