Default Hello All!

Hey everyone,

So I believe my quest for a good, informative, and well populated corvette forum has come to an end

I am happy to start here, on my conquest to learn a lot and hopefully find a new c6 z06 to add to my garage in the near future. I am not new to cars or turning wrenches. I have long been an import guy -- nothing ricey I must say (we can't forget our pasts though can we?!) but fast built, large turbo'ed subarus and an evolution mr. I fell in love with American muscle when I first heard a mildly built 03 cobra running at the strip; from that point on, I knew I had to get my hands on one. So I did, I built it, loved it, and drove the heck out of it. I eventually sold it and bought a new 2007 tahoe. I had owned GM products in the past (only trucks) and the latest tahoe gave me some problems (most notably a trans main seal that pooped out on me), I ended up selling it as I made a nice amount of money, and purchased an 05 TL as a car I knew I could drive till the wheels fell off, and is a fairly nice vehicle all around.

As of late, I have really been on the prowl to sell my TL and buy a used Toyota 4runner -- I guess you could say imports left a lasting impression on me right? Well, my plan was to do that and then find a nice whippled or kb'ed cobra to put in the garage. After some serious debating, online searching, and chatting up with my best friend I have landed on the c6 z06 as the car of my choice. My last name is Ford, I thought I would always bleed blue, but I just can't deny my desire for a c6Z. Something about mild bolt ons on an N/A motor that produces that kind of power just gives me goose bumps.

The one issue I have is that I'm paying a tremendous amount of student loans, so I've been lurking trying to figure out how much I will be able to spend to afford a Z. I figure if I can trade my TL or sell it and get a cheap 4runner as a daily/ winter/ haul the huge dog vehicle then I can eventually get enough for a down payment and rock a Z. I was initially looking for an 06 for the price -- something around 30-40k miles, but I am concerned about having a warranty. So I decided to look into an 08 for the newer transmission. Although I'm a veteran to the T-56 (had one in the slobra), I could get by with one in the 06-07 with a nice short throw in it.

I have been looking in the classified section and have found some decently priced (upper 30's) Z's, but as I said it's almost futile to search now, as I probably won't purchase until winter (at the soonest). Living in Colorado I am surprised to see so many Z's on the road and at the dealerships -- but they do command a high price, maybe it's the lovely summer weather? Any how I need to figure out what color as well, I was thinking black, but how does the GM black hold up on these cars? My TL is black and it's horrible -- you can blow on it and all kinds of scratches and swirlies show up..

Wow I'm really making this one long .. any how that's my intro, any insight would be great!
And most importantly Happy Memorial Day and thanks for having me!

-Jake
