I've waited 5 decades for a Corvette!

I bought a 6 speed manual to shift in all gears. The fix is a skip shift eliminator. I put is on about 5 years ago. I believe it was about $30 from Summit Racing. It disables the solenoid on the transmission. You pop off the connector and install the plug to the transmission and a cap on the wire harness. Takes about 1 minute.
Beautiful car you ordered. I would love a ZO6. But GS is more in my price range.

Thanks for the info, it's very much appreciated. Am I correct in assuming that the word "forcing", in the instructions is the operative word?
The instructions say..."forcing the shift lever into any position but 4th, can damage the transmission."
When that "1 to 4" light is activated, does it become very difficult to shift to any gear but 4th? If that is the case, then, it would make an accidental shift into 2nd impossible, unless excessive force were used on the shift lever, which may cause damage. If that is the scenario I can understand the function. But, if a normal shift into 2nd was possible with that light on, and damage could result, that is just ridiculous.
What was your experience?

As notated, the skip shift eliminator is your best route to bypass this 'issue,' although shifting into 2nd will not damage your transmission.
Beautiful car! I love the blade silver/black leather combo

Shifting into any gear but 4th is not difficult, and you don't have to use excessive force to shift into 2nd. I would describe it as rather than moving the shifter into 2nd, you are pulling it back into 2nd.

Thanks for the compliment, can't wait to get it!!!
It seems to me that simply driving normally, which generally means accelerating to about 20 to 25mph before shifting into 2nd, would bypass the issue completely, since the "1 to 4" window is 15 to 19 mph.

You are correct. If you 'ride' first gear, the 1 -> 4 will eventually go away.

Just keep the revs up and shift around 2200 RPM!
Have the feature in my Corvette and it never has been an issue but i would recommend the skip shift kit. I just haven't gotten around to it.
Good luck with a beautiful car!

Makes good sense, thanks!
I haven't driven a stick shift in so many years, I'm really looking forward to it. My last manual xmission was a 1970 Plymouth 440 6 Pack, that I sold in '75, so that's what...37 years!
I have so much to learn. I was looking through the owners manual, and read under maintenance that the clutch fluid had to be changed. I thought CLUTCH FLUID??? Fluid in a clutch, what???

Welcome Hameister and congratulations on your new purchase. I didn't wait 5 decades but 4.5 (close enough). So close in fact that I didn't feel I had the luxury to wait for th 3rd model year of the C7.
You've come to the right place and you will learn a lot.

Thank you all, your comments are appreciated, but no one addressed my question, which was...
Does anyone have any idea, just how long is the delay, between "Queued for Production", and actual production???
If anyone knows, I'd appreciate a response, cuz the wait is killin' me!

Here's an update for anyone who may be interested...
Spoke with a rep. at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Ky.
She verified that there were no mistakes in my options list.
She said that my car is scheduled to go into production on 1/9, and will be completed on 1/14. It will go through final testing and checkout on 1/15, and I can expect it to arrive at my dealer on, or about, 1/28/13.
She was also able to give me the car's VIN number, and said that it will be one of, or possibly even the very last C6 GS produced.
28 days to go!

According to my source in Bowling Green, Kentucky, my 'vette rolled off the assembly line at approx. 3:30pm yesterday afternoon, with an official birthday of January 11, 2013.
I was told it is being prepared for shipment, and I can expect it to leave as soon as they have a full car carrier to my area, and that's normally about 10 to 14 days. I was told it is now in "Production Complete", status.
However, when I checked the status website, it shows that it has already been shipped. So, as of this moment?????
Doesn't matter, it's all good!
