New 1987 C4 convertible (auto trans) owner - Need a VSS
I celebrated my 35th year in the Army and promotion to Colonel by buying my neighbor's Vette. He had it sitting in driveway for a year and while relocating to a new home didn't want to drag it behind him. After the test ride, I noticed that the Tach and Speedo weren't working. Despite my recommendation not to, he went right out and found a replacement VSS, installed it, and sold the car to me. Only problem is, he left the VSS connector hanging on the muffler (yep, it melted).
I drove it around for a couple hundred miles without speedo and tach before noticing the melted connector. It drove nice with decent speed and pickup. Once I replaced the connector and re-connected the VSS, I got Tach but no Speedo, plus the engine started to run rough. I suspect that he installed a VSS for manual transmission instead of Automatic.
Running diagnostics on in preparation for completing a tune-up/troubleshooting of rough idle and VSS error. I don't have a parts book (ordered it) so, I'm delaying tune-up and search for another VSS until it arrives. If I can't find the correct VSS, what are my options?
