4 wheel drive corvette
Hi,
I am new to this forum, although Corvettes have been my daily drivers for many years. A 1999 Coupe with almost 160,000 miles on it is my dailey driver, and recently completed a 4 wheel drive 2004convertible Corvette after over 2,500 hours construction time. Does anyone know of another C5 Vette that has been converted to a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Although I have driven the car a little over 500 miles, some changes will made and ideas would be appreciated.

4 Wheel Drive Corvette
The Corvette convertible (2004) was purchased at a Co-Part auction down in San Antonio, TX a couple of years ago. It only had about 35,000 miles on it, however, it had been flooded so all of the computers and electronics were going bad. The rear end, transmission, transfer case, and front dif., "A" arms and so fourth are from a 1991 Toyota 4 Runner. The 4 Runner was selected for no other reason that the track width was close to being correct for the Corvette body. I determined that this was the correct set up by driving around the countryside with my tape measure, and measuring neighbors vehicles. I did all of the work myself except for bending the tubing for the roll bar and exhaust, making the power steering pump hose, welding the torsion bars (yep), and the aluminum welding on two fittings, which I was afraid I would destroy, since my heli-arc welding is even worse than my arc welding. Total build time for me was about 2,500 hours which included rebuilding all of the Toyota components. The frame is square tubing, and to be quite honest is a little warped, since I didn't have a chassis jig, and my garage floor isn't too flat. The transmission is the Toyota, automatic which is fired by 12 volt solenoids, so a switch is used to fire the solenoids and shift the gears. If anyone has more questions, I will be happy to answer, and will try to post a few more photos later today.

Snow
What got me to thinking about this, is I live on a high mesa (5,500 ft. above sea level) here in Northern New Mexico and we can get lots of snow in the winter,, and my old C5 really didn't handle it too well.

Very good thank you. Currently, I have a 1999 which I purchased new, and prior to that I had a 1984. Later in the year a new c7 will be ordered. It seems that a new Corvette is in order about every 15 years. They make great daily drivers. Also, if you check my posts you will see a 4 wheel drive Corvette, since the snow gets a bit deep up here.

It's great to hear about your experience and plans. Please keep us posted on the C7 process .
