Introduction from an NCM Raffle Winner
Hello CF Members!
Last month I was blessed and lucky enough to win the National Corvette Museum's latest "Build Your Own Corvette" raffle and yesterday I was notified that my order has been submitted and the car should be built around the end of January. My “Build Your Own” options:
Stingray Coupe with Z51
3LT
Shark Gray Metallic
Jet Black Napa Leather
8 Speed Automatic Transmission
Magnetic Selective Ride Control
Red Painted Calipers
Black Aluminum Wheels
Carbon Fiber Dual Roof Package (C2M)
Carbon Fiber Interior Trim
Carbon Flash Mirrors and Spoiler
Carbon Flash Badge Package
Carbon Flash Hood Stinger
Battery Protection Package
Museum Delivery
This should be one nicely outfitted C7 “Zulu 51” and I have been very fortunate to have gotten the options I wanted as there have been some constraints on some of them. I’ll put together a thread updating anyone who is interested in the whole process of winning one of the NCM raffles. For anyone with the desire to gamble a little, I would highly recommend checking out the raffles put on by the NCM http://www.corvettemuseum.org/raffle/index.shtml They usually raffle off a couple Stingrays a month and depending on the car, tickets can be had for as little as $10 each. Some past raffles have sold only 600 to 700 tickets making for some great odds on winning. Sure better than PowerBall at 7.1 million.
So a little about me. I have been a lifelong Corvette fan but have never until recently had the discretionary finances to afford one. Over the last year I had actually been looking for a 2007-2008 C6 that would be in my price range but had not found anything that I really liked. Of course a new C7 was completely out of the question! Spent 21+ years in the Navy before retiring and moving to the Denver area where I work in IT for a national company. Now that I have found the CF community I am looking forward to tapping into an amazing amount of knowledge and experience here to help make owning a Corvette an even better experience than I had imagined.

Congrats!!! That's awesome. May I ask, how come you didn't opt for the new C7 Z06?

The raffle was for a "Build Your Own 2015 Corvette" or $55k in cash, no Z06 or constrained options. Was pretty fortunate to get the options I wanted as I know many have been constrained.

The IRS looks on this as gambling winnings so it's 25% of the value, which is the dealer invoice in this case. Given what I optioned on the car it is $73k or $18,250 in federal income taxes. Have to show up at NCM to take delivery with a check for that much and they'll trade me that for a W-2G and my new C7. Oh and then there is the 10.5% state and local sales tax I'll pay on the $73k..... I'll take a 2015 C7 built to me specs for $26k any day as I am sure most members of this forum would!!

I started trying after my first visit to the NCM in early 2011. I won on the 16th raffle I entered and over that time I had $2500 in gambling losses. And now I have $72k+ in gambling winnings. I would only enter a raffle in which there was a car in the color and options I really wanted. This one just happened to a build your own which NCM only does a couple times a year.
