A New Bitter Sweet Corvette Owner
Hey guys, I'm the new proud owner of a 1998 Corvette.
I've grown up with a really strong relationship with my father that has been surrounded by motorsports and the automotive world, we both wrench together, cruise together, and challenge each other with what we have. Just recently, my parents both lost their jobs on the same day and decided to move back to the UK together.
Because of our strong love for anything cars and motorsports, my Dad, as a final parting gift to me since I'm the only one in my family staying in the United States, decided to give me his beloved 1998 Corvette.
It's bone stock with 31,001 miles on the clock. Targa top, 6 speed manual.
I promised him that while he's away, I'll be building it to compete in some circuit racing and track days, so that when he returns to California for a vacation, I'll take him out to a local racetrack and we can enjoy the car and motorsports all over again.
A little bit about myself - my name's Sarah, I'm 25 years old, and live in Southern California.
I'm going on 10 years as a Composite Technician, and at the beginning of this year, started working for SpaceX. I handcraft the parts that go inside of Falcon 9's second stage fuel tank, as well as make parts for our Dragon capsule's. Hopefully soon once I figure out a new garage situation to house the Corvette, I will also be making carbon fiber parts for my Corvettes and other people's Corvettes.
I'm currently visiting South Carolina to say good-bye to my parents, and to pick up the new toy. I'll be leaving on Thursday to drive this little red beauty back to California with me.
I've been scouring these forums since I decided to take the Corvette, and I'm extremely excited to begin building it and learning about this platform.

Welcome to the Forum, Sarah!
I understand your use of the term "Bitter Sweet", but know your parents are proud that you are now caretaker of the "family Vette." Your father will enjoy tracking this with you when they come back for visits.
You may have already found it, but lots of good C5 info in: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...s-1997-2004-2/
Cheers, Larry (Route99)

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your parent’s job loss, and hope they will do well in the UK.
Just a reminder - if you have any plans to make carbon fiber parts and then offer them for sale here on the forum, you will need to become a supporting vendor. If that is the route you are going to take, please either contact me, any of the other moderators, or an administrator for more information on how to contact Internet Brands about the supporting vendor program.

I've definitely found it before and have been doing my fair share of reading as far as what to look out for with this generation, and to see which kind of modifications it benefits from first.
