I wanna be like you guys!
Hello,
I'm obviously new here. I am looking soon to invest in an older Corvette, possibly one that's 1990 or slightly older. One reason for the older model is I like the older simpler look. My future Vette will be a "Sunday and holiday driver" for most trips less than 100 miles round trip. I want an automatic that's in good running condition and only needs some elbow grease and a little luv to make it even better. Not looking for a 100% restored show car, looking to spend $11,000 or less. Any of you have a 1985 to 1990 and have beginner advice for me; what to look for and what to stay away from? All good advice appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to the Corvette Forum RetroGuy. I don't have much experience with the 79-82 C-3s, but I do know you are in the right place for expert advice. Be sure to check out the C-3 section.

Welcome to the forum, Retroguy!
You may want to post your question in the C3 section of the forum at https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...s-1968-1982-5/; and C4 section at https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-1984-1996-19/. There is also a cars for sale section in each of these that may have the Corvette perfect for you.
If you end up considering an early C4 for sale, I'd suggest looking for a late 1986, or an 87-88.
Updates for these years include:
1986. VATS anti-theft system; Anti-lock brakes; Aluminum heads (in late ’86 – reduced car weight by 125 pounds, and added 5HP to the earlier engines.
1987. Hydraulic Roller lifters added (increase of 10HP and 15lb/ft torque); rocker arm covers with raised rails to strengthen cover and eliminate oil leaks there; added thicker core radiator, and also went to two cooling fans; finned power-steering cooler added.
1988. Revised heads and new profile cam added 5HP; less restrictive exhaust if the 3.07 axle was ordered; 17x9.5 wheels with 275/40-17 Z rated tires included with Z51/Z52 suspension packages (16” wheels also went to Z rated tires); Zero Scrub Radius front suspension geometry.
Best wishes with your search.
