1) The latest news from GM

GM's Saturn plant may lose its Saturns
In production shuffle, it could become just another GM factory
Saturn's highly efficient Spring Hill, Tenn., factory -- centerpiece of the brand's folksy "different kind of car company" strategy -- may lose both of its Saturn products and start building other GM nameplates.

As GM pushes OnStar, other brands bail out
As General Motors expands its promotion of OnStar in GM cars, other automakers are dropping the service, which they say has appealed to very few customers. And that's fine with GM, which no longer is promoting it aggressively to competing brands.

GM may extend discounts
General Motors may extend its "Employee Discount for Everyone" program through July, GM marketing chief Mark LaNeve said here Friday.

Analysts: June is sales home run for GM
General Motors, spurred by its program of employee discounts for everyone, is the runaway U.S. sales winner in June, several industry analysts say. Estimates of GM's sales gain for the month range from 26 percent to more than 30 percent over last year. GM's market share gain will be a loss for almost every other automaker.

Get rid of rebates? Are you crazy?
General Motors is talking about cutting prices and trying to phase out rebates and incentives. At the same time, the "Employee Discount for Everyone'' incentive seems to have hit a home run with consumers. Sooner or later, everyone must realize that incentives -- big incentives -- are here to stay.

Chevrolet may offer rwd answer to Ford, Chrysler
Stung by the success of the Ford Mustang and Chrysler 300, Chevrolet is studying rear-drive cars. The brand could decide this year whether to build more rwd vehicles. With the exception of the Corvette, all Chevrolet cars have front-wheel drive.

Chevy shoots for the hip with quirky HHR wagon
Chevrolet's retro HHR wagon faces a challenge: how to make a splash with trendy buyers who are turning to modern shapes such as the Scion xB. "We are going to position it as very youthful, fun, high-energy (with) hip music, bold colors and graphics," says Jim Campbell, Chevrolet's car marketing director.

Chevy will be picky when choosing dealers for Z06
The Corvette Z06 could be one of the most sought-after cars in the 2006 model year. But Chevrolet dealers that sold only a handful of 2005 Corvettes may not share in the excitement this year.

GM won't follow Ford, DCX in tire age advisory
General Motors won't follow Ford Motor Co. and DaimlerChrysler AG in recommending that car buyers change their tires after six years, regardless of tread wear or other factors.

4) 2006 Corvette Z06 Allocation Information

Corvette Z06 Allocation Plan
The 2006 Corvette Z06 allocation plan is a 2 phase process. While the details of each phase are shown below, there are some key points worth noting. First, not every Certified Corvette Dealer will receive a 2006 Corvette Z06 model. The Z06 model will have its own allocation group - Z06. And, Corvette Z06 retail production will be allocated to eligible Corvette Dealers using the most current 52-week total retail Corvette sales.
• Dealers will be able to view current month allocation plus one month outlook
• Each Dealer will be mailed a six month allocation outlook
• In December, a four month outlook will be communicated based on the most current 52-week sales history
• In April 2006, distribution will provide the balance of model year outlook based on the latest 52-week sales history for buildout
• The above steps were established to discourage over commitment/selling
Phase I Details
• Dealers will be placed in Tiers based on their 52 weeks of retail Corvette sale
history (June 2004 - May 2005) for the first 3 consensus cycles.
- Tier 1 will be comprised of the 25 largest volume Corvette Dealers
- Tier 2 will include the largest 125 Corvette Dealers
- Tier 3 will expand to include the largest 300 Corvette Dealers
• Initial consensus:
- June 2005 (for production week 33)
- Exclusively to Tier 1 Dealers using the June 2004 - May 2005 sales history
• Second consensus:
- July 2005 (for production weeks 34 - 36)
- Exclusively to Tier 1 & 2 Dealers based on the launch sales data
• Third and final Phase I consensus:
- August 2005 (for production weeks 37 - 40)
- Distributed to Tier 1, 2 & 3 Dealers
• Consensed allocations will be "protected", so that Dealers cannot accidentally
loose their allocations. Pattern Z06 orders will be created as necessary during
weekly DOSP cycles.
Phase II Details
• Eliminates the assignment of Dealer Tiers. All Certified Corvette
Dealers with a June 2004 - May 2005 sales history will be comprehended
in the balance of allocation calculations.
• The allocation determined by the same formula in phase 1
• Begins with the September 2005 consensus (for production weeks 41 - 45)
• Due to the limited production of the Z06 model there will be no
guarantee that each Certified Corvette Dealer will receive allocation
for a Z06 model
• Consensed allocations will continue to be "protected", from accidental
loss. Pattern Z06 orders will be created as necessary during weekly
DOSP cycles.
• Z06 will not qualify for PEP, but will be eligible for EVP Drive & Buy
and GMS/Supplier when the current incentive program expires
Don’t be misled by your dealer!

Please note that EVERY Chevrolet dealer received a letter from the Corvette Marketing Team dated June 15, 2005.

Before you place an order and give a deposit to your dealer of choice based upon what they tell you, ask to see this letter!!!!

Have a successful day,

Subject: Corvette Z06 Allocation Projection

An integral part of the 2006 Corvette Z06 distribution plan is to provide an extended allocation projection to all eligible Corvette dealers. This is a projection and not a commitment, but is intended to assist dealers in managing customer expectations in line with dealer allocation.

Below is your dealership’s projected allocation of Z06 through December 2005 production. A second extended projection will be provided in December. Please keep in mind that this allocation projection is based on an estimated production schedule and therefore must continue to be considered as a projection and is not to be considered an absolute commitment.

Your Z06 Estimated Allocations:
July August September October November December
# # # # # #

If a dealer chooses not to consent to their Z06 allocation that allocation will be redistributed to another eligible dealer during the variance resolution and will not be rolled forward nor will it be converted to regular Corvette allocation.

7) Corvette Pricing Revealed

I have read a number of posts with questions relative to the pricing of a new Corvette. Often times there have been answers posted and for the most part the answers have been incorrect.

In an attempt to clear up a few misunderstandings I have prepared an analysis for your information. I am in no way saying that a dealer should sell you a car at any specific price nor am I saying that a dealer is required to offer GM Supplier or GM Employee pricing. This post is for information only.

Example:
2004 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
Preferred Equipment Package 1SB
6 Speed Transmission
Sound System with Navigation
Polished Aluminum Wheels
Z51 Performance Handling Package
Destination Charge

MSRP = $53,060.00

Dealer Invoice = $46,921.85
(assuming dealer participates in the GM advertising program at 1%)

Net Dealer Cost = $45,354.05

The difference between retail and dealer invoice is $6138.15.

The difference between invoice and net cost is $1567.80, the 3% holdback paid the dealership.

Dealerships typically won’t sell a car below the dealer invoice as the holdback is an amount used by the dealership for overhead expenses including but not limited to floor plan interest, insurance, etc.

DEALERS ARE NOT PAID A VOLUME BONUS BASED UPON WHAT THEY SELL AS SOME FOLKS HAVE POSTED!!!

Dealerships are businesses, owned by folks who need to make a profit to stay in business. There are many other expenses to pay. If you are employed personally or if you own a business I doubt that you will work without receiving a paycheck.

Finally, if a dealer is willing to sell a new Corvette equipped per the example to a GM Supplier or GM Employee, here are those prices:

GM Supplier = $46,927.24
(GM rebates the dealer $891. So with a invoice of $46,921.85, the dealer makes $896.39 plus the holdback)

GM Employee = $44,906.45
(GM rebates the dealer $2613. So with a invoice of $46,921.85, the dealer makes $597.60 plus the holdback)

Dear sir:

The last line of section 2 of weekly contents says "the first day of 2006 Z06 production is July 25, 2005".

Yet #4, right under the 3 tier descriptions it says "initial consinsus: June 2005 (for production week 33)"

I infer that means the first build week is week 33, which starts August 15.

Can you confirm which th the correct first week of production please? Thank you.

Since Z06 production does not start until July I am curious what happens to all the ZO6 vettes we have seen built on the production line in June? Are they made to be sold with the other July made Z06 Corvettes to end consumers or do they exist only for production training purposes, marketing purposes, or other testing purposes.

These cars are for testing and reliability studies and once that is finished they will go back to the plant and some will be refurbished and auctioned off to the public as used vehicles and others will be crushed.

I especially like to see the last note under the Z06 allocation information where it said the Z06 will be eligible for GMS/supplier discount.

Ken, I'm new to this so let me try to understand all that you've said. It appears that all dealers don't have to sell cars to employees or suppliers, thus getting less per car if they do, even with rebates from GM, etc. Is that right?

And you say there are no volume discoutns or incentives to the dealers. Are you also saying there are no periodic incentives from the factory/mfr. on certain models, certain colors, certain packages, certain options? And there are no periodic incentives to dealers from district or regions either?

In other words, as you say in your example(s) cited, every dealer in the country pays exactly the same for a particular car and reaps no other rewards before, during, or after the model year for a particular car. Is that correct?

So, if, for instance, Kerbeck can keep its costs down (whether it's salaries, rent, lighting, commissions, etc.) and Criswell or McDorman can't do as well, Kerbeck will still pay after all accounting is taken into consideration, the same for a particular car as Criswell or McDorman. The only difference being how long did one dealer have to finance the car vs. another dealer. Is that correct?

I certainly would appreciate your explanations. Thanks!

Good evening from Baltimore MD.

I am out of the office and will not return until July 11. However, I am doing my best to stay in touch with all of you!

"The last line of section 2 of weekly contents says "the first day of 2006 Z06 production is July 25, 2005".

I only post what GM supplies for information. All sources indicate that the dealers who receive allocations for production early will see those orders produced the week of July 25.

"These cars are for testing and reliability studies and once that is finished they will go back to the plant and some will be refurbished and auctioned off to the public as used vehicles and others will be crushed.

I especially like to see the last note under the Z06 allocation information where it said the Z06 will be eligible for GMS/supplier discount."

These are correct statements.

"Ken, I'm new to this so let me try to understand all that you've said.

Is that correct?"

GM does offer periodic dealer cash rebates on specific units that have a higher days supply in specific regions. But, every dealer pays the same for every product. There are no "volume discounts". GM also offers incentives to dealers for hitting specific objectives under special sales promotions.

Have a great week!

Again,

I am still out of state but I will send a PM to Robert in parts in hopes that he will answer the question on the CD Changer. I have read that other vendors are stating this option is now available!

Default You will need a lawyer to read and interpret all of that and put it into English.

I certainly would appreciate your explanations. Thanks!

Default 12 disc changer

I have talked to GM and Delco and had my regional parts rep check as well. They all tell me at this time there is no changer available from GM for the C6. I had one of the people at Delco tell me one was in the works but had no information other than that for me. I have a call into one of the heads of the Corvette Accessory program to see what he has to say but have not received an answer back yet. If I hear anything different I will post it.
