Default Constraint Question

What does the number at the end of the constraint signify?
Here is the current constraint and the roof package has a 40 and the wheels has a 0. What do those number mean.

Thanks,

RWW

40 allocations are available for the roof package and zero allocations for the polished wheels.

Thank you for the explanation. I thought it might be that there were 40 cars waiting for the option.

But here is my question. How is it determined "WHICH 40 ORDERS" out of that week's allocation will get that RPO code? Can anyone explain?

The plant plans ahead with production numbers by about two or three weeks. They only make about 150 cars per day. If they see that they'll only have enough of part X on the shelf to make 20 that week, then they'll issue a constraint on ORDERS that include part X. Each dealer gets a certain number of allocations per week for C6 coupes/verts and another allocation for ZO6's. They are also told by GM how many of those allocations can include an option that is on constraint.

Example:
Your dealer may get 5 allocations for C6 coups this week. If you want a C2L Roof Package, but your dealer wasn't given an allocation for one, then your order won't be accepted by the plant. If you decide to drop the C2L, then your order will be accepted.

They do this so that they can keep running at max capacity no matter what parts are on shortage for any given week. It would suck if they had 150 cars scheduled to be produced today that they didn't have enough parts for

But can anyone explain how GM decides WHICH ORDERS (which dealers) will get the 40 constraint option roofs that week in this example?

The dealers definitely don't know, and somehow I get the feeling that GM itself doesn't even know

Constraints are distributed equitably.

They are distributed based on every dealer's sales of the constrained option or color for the past 52 weeks as a percentage of total sales.

Default Polished vs. Chrome Wheels

Ken:

I guess - but don't know - that the "0" constraint of polished wheels has somethong to do with the shift to chrome wheels currently under way.

Do you have any info on: (1) the timing of chrome wheel introduction; (2) the RPO; and (3) if polished wheel orders will automatically be switched to chrome wheels? Thanks in advance for any information you care to share.

Default polished wheels

I don't know what Ken's response will be but I originally ordered my car on 6/28/06 with polished wheels . The dealer expected my order to be built in early August but the factory would never ackknowledge due to the polished wheels. Several others that ordered at the same time had their order get a firm TPW. I undestand those that already had firm TPW got swapped at no charge but the rest were delayed.

Later the factory must have thought they were going to start running polished because they accepted my order (status code 2500) for production 9/4 week. Shortly after that they changed their mind and my dealer called and said I had to change my wheel option or get pushed out . I chose not to change becuase I heard they may be available in Oct. After a few weeks, I started seeing vehicles with TPW of Oct and still no word that polished would be available so I reluctantly agreed to pay the extra cost and change to chromed wheels. Not real happy, but my only other choice was wait. Since I have a museum delivery, I wanted the car while there was still some nice weather...

Hope this helps....

You could have opted for the base wheels, and done a wheel exchange
and saved a lot of $$$.
I believe WCC (forum vendor) has them for $645/set.

Thanks very much for the info. What was the $$ difference between polished and chrome?

I thought about that, and you're right I figured that even with the GMID discount it would have saved me about $500. I guess I got concerned when I read about someones wheels being damaged when tires were swapped and their tire pressure sensors were broken too. I just moved to a new area and haven't found anyone I trust to do the swap so I chose to upgrade.

Next time I may consider that route...but thanks for the advice.

The Polished Wheels have been constrained due to a supplier problem. GM will not be providing Chrome Wheels to those who order Polished Wheels. Each carries a different price.
