Ken...On this subject, I've had major problems entering
my 2001 VIN inthe system. Several calls and emails
to GM and they told me their databases are not all
compatible. But I'd like to be able call up my service history
and TSB's via my VIN.
Try this. I have both my Cars enrolled on GMLink! I think it's pretty cool! I keep my service records on there! I have an 02 C5 there and my 02 Monte Carlo https://www.mygmlink.com/main/US/en/chevrolet/home
Problem is, it doesn't recognize my VIN and I've contacted GM
a number of times. They keep saying it doesn't work. They have
several databases which don't talk to each other.
It's been about a year and I still can't register the VIN.
I've had the same problem. I called GM when GMLINK was first introduced. I got the database excuse as well. I'm sure this excuse has been refined and well-rehearsed by now since I tried to get this fixed months ago. After reading this thread, I was hopeful the employees responsible for this program had fixed this problem. Alas, I was wrong.
Given the ample time and feedback, GM has NO EXCUSE for its incomplete database. Even after customer calls, nothing is offered but excuses and inaction. This website and my experience with customer service reflects poorly on GM's commitment to it's customers.
I offer three solutions to fix this problem:
1. Fix the database! Ensure all VIN and owner data is complete and accurate.
2. Fix the validation process! If a customer calls, fix the problem on the spot and thank the customer for his/her interest in the program and for buying a GM product!
3. Scrap the program until you can make it work. The company now has a storefront that thousands of cutomers can directly observe. As more and more customers become internet savvy, the negative impact of poor service will multiply exponentially. It's bad business.
I end by thanking the people in GM who were inspired to make this wonderful car which is my Corvette. I can only imagine the obstacles these people surmounted to make this car a reality. Also, many thanks go to people like Ken Fitchner who "go the extra mile" for their customers. Your work is appreciated by many.
Ditto here, too George. I signed up when Ken first posted the link and I still can't get the system to accept my '98 C5 VIN. As an IT professional myself, I find it really inexcusable that GM would even launch a site when they don't have each and every VIN in their database ... :mad
Re-entered my 2002 VIN. Same problem, error message that the VIN is not valid. Have sent another e-mail advising GM of the problem. Seems that either a compare to a table of production VINs or a logic step to validate the fields etc., should not be that difficult.
Its because Corvette is not participation in the GMLink Program. If u go to the registration page and under vehicle information...click "Participating Vehicles".... Corvette is not one of them.... :mad  :cuss

Sure it is. It's in the right hand column in the Chevrolet listing.
If it won't take your VIN, call them at the 866-MYGMLINK number. I couldn't get the site to take my VIN either, but the rep on the phone set it up for me while I was talking to her.
