There is some chatter about the ring failure problem on the LS1 and they indicate that it was solved in 2002. I'm interested in knowing if this is true and if they are speaking of 2002 calendar year or model year--since mine was built in 2001. Any info would be greatly appreciated. :chevy
Just FYI, the first hundred or so (maybe first few hundred) '02's off the line have the 2001 rings. Mine was the 64th built for '02 so I have '01 rings.
The bulletin for the ring problem is refering to the model year, and goes thru model year 2001. GM Parts made the ring part number change effective for all C5 models in Feb of 02. This is per my part number history info. It is possible some of the early 02's got an engine made with leftover 01 rings as the other person states. I have not heard of anyone having a problem yet with the 02 and newer.
Thanks. I guess I'll keep one hand's fingers crossed for this and use the other hand for the steering wheel lock up. I just hope I don't have either problem nor any others; I'm out of hands now.
