    Claudio,

I did get your PM. I just hadn’t looked in my unread mail folder. To answer your question, the lower cover on a 40083 fuel pump is called the pulsator cover. There was an early style pulsator cover and a late style pulsator cover. The early cover is a natural casting, with AC embossed on the bottom. The later cover is stamped steel with a gold dichromate plating. The early cover was used in 1964, and maybe part of 1965. The later cover was used in late 1965, all if 1966. So, alll ‘‘66 L79 cars, like mine, have the stamped steel cover. But your ‘64 should have the cast cover. The covers are interchangeable. Otherwise all original production line 40083 fuel pumps are identical. It’s very simple to swap pulsator covers. Just remove 4 screws, remove the one cover and then replace it with the other cover, retighten the screws. So, your original cover can be swapped onto my pump.

    Hi Gary,

Thank you for your email. I appreciate your concern about scammers. After having sent you a message about the fuel pump, I received an email from someone unknown attempting to sell me a 40083 fuel pump. I feel a bit leery about the email I received.

I own a 1964 Corvette having an original drive train (365 HP). I purchased the car one year ago from Corvette Central in Newington, CT. It was a Top Flight Award winner in 2013. I have a particular preference in having cars that are all original.

In speaking with the prior owner of this car, he told me that he had the original fuel pump rebuilt about 10 years ago. The reason I am interested in the 40083 fuel pump is because I found a small but steady fuel leak coming from my fuel pump.

Question: my original fuel pump has a round bottom bowl. The photos of the fuel pump you sent me shows a flat bottom plate. Can you tell me the difference?

I look forward to your response.

    Claudio
