Default Cost to replace a clutch? (CT & Western Mass)

All,

Based on the poor performance of my C5 last weekend on the Dyno, I'm having the guys at Corvette Center look at the clutch and other parameters of the car. If the clutch is bad, can anyone suggest another shop within a 100 miles of Western CT (besides Corvette center)? I like those guys and their shop is very convenient but sometimes I think they're digging a little too deep in my pocket.

Thanks
M

You should talk to Dave or Greg at ESP and ask them. I highly recommend their work and they are reasonable.777

See what Ray says .... I don't think your clutch (or your Corvette) was the issue.

Slowhawk Performance in Bridgewater MA. He has more LS & Corvette experience than anyone in the area. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my car.

From what I saw at ESP last weekend, I wouldn't trust those guys to change my oil.

They really looked like monkeys trying to have sex with a football.

Don (Slowhawk) did a monster stage 3 in the Camaro. Car was 450-460rwhp on a mustang dyno ran 11.1 and could lift the front tires off the ground. Daily driven and tracked. Car had no issues with the clutch.

I based it on watching them not know how to correctly position a car on the dyno. Cars were staged too far back on they dyno, that's why they put guys in the trunk and still could not get a good read on anything over 400hp.

They also told someone they needed a new clutch without road testing it. They knew they were having issues on the dyno. Also, don't know what all that mini run stuff was about before the actual pulls. Great way to heat up a transmission or glaze over a clutch.

There was a lot more.

As for my experience, Don did my clutch because I needed it at the same time I was having knee surgery. I built 500+rwhp LS cars in the past, did all the work except the last clutch and the tunes on my cars. Don taught me everything I know. Have been to and worked a ton of dyno days.

I normally like to do things myself, but Don did my A&A supercharger kit last summer while I was in for another knee surgery. (30 years of Goju Ryu Karate caught up with me)

I doubt you have a clutch issue.

Not Nino's fault but something wasn't right with that dyno. It was an entertaining day but personally I wouldn't use any of those pulls to diagnose a potential drivetrain issue or even to compare to last years pulls if you did mods over the winter. Just my opinion.

As John said, for piece of mind have Ray take it for a drive.

Like Dave said Slowhawk is excellent but it's a haul to get out there. Don tuned my C5 when it had the previous motor in it. Probably the best LS guy in the area.

You might try J&M Motorsports (Mike Levesque) in Manchester as an alternative but if it was my car I would stick with the Corvette Center. Maybe a few dollars more but you get what you pay for and they stand behind their work.

J&M is a larger shop and they do have a Dynojet. They might do a couple pulls for you at a reasonable price so you have a good baseline to work with.

don at slowhawk is the only one ill let touch my car. i have a lot of experience with local shops and also have heard horror stories from every single one other then slowhawk.... i had esp do a diff for me a few years back, the first one whined... they re did it and that one whined to. they are nice guys but i have never gone back.

slowhawk is a good ways away but if you have AAA you don't even need to go to the shop... I've done it this way 3-4 times with no issues. they are exactly 100 miles from me so my AAA tow covers the whole thing.

My car will be going to Slowhawk when the time comes for a clutch. There are two shops a lot closer than his from my area. Just sayin..
