I blew a head gasket on my 72 Corvette and damaged the engine a couple of weeks ago. I had the engine checked at a local shop. They removed the spark plugs and blew coolant out of the cylinders. There is also coolant in the crankcase mixed with my oil. The car will not run. I am either going to purchase a HO rebuilt one from a forum member or purchase a crate engine that will fit under my hood with no clearance issues. The engine was a 90's crate replacement so there is no matching number concern. While the car isn't matching numbers, it is a beautiful car and I only want a shop where they are familiar with C3's and will take the appropriate measures to protect the body and paint. I normally have used Corvettes and Classics in Taunton with good results, but the owner of the shop they send this work out to has health issues. Can anyone recommend a shop in RI or nearby Massachusetts that they have used and had good results with? Thank you.
A little further up in MA, but check out Ron's Restorations. Top quality work on all generations and has been a Corvette guy for longer than I've been alive
There is also the Corvette Connection up rt 6 in Bolton, CT. However, not sure you need a Corvette specialist. I will ask some of my RI buddies for an engine guy.
Where are you in RI? I grew up there. Moved to CT 17 years ago.
I live in Johnston. I located a shop in Dighton, Mass today. I am going to check it out tomorrow, but in speaking with the owner on the phone it sounded promising. Kindly let me know if anything turns up, because you never know.
