Default Bassani X pipe installed Saturday

2003 C5 Zo6, Borla Stinger and now I installed the Bassani 50 state legal X pipe. The kit is pretty complete, although no instructions, this is a pretty straight forward couple hr job. It took me ~ 2 hours, because I spent about 45 minutes to insure my cut off points were correct.

Jack and block car to where you can work under the car - no real height requirement for pipe/ground clearance.

Measure and mark. What finally made me feel comfortable with my cut area was when I used tie wraps to hold my X pipe in place with my H pipe. My measured and marked areas were correct. I also verified the ID of the Bassani and OD of the exhause were correct.

I started my cuts with my die grinder and cut off wheel, and finished the cuts with my Sawzall.

By tightening the pipe clamps on ~ a 15 degree angle ensured my clamp bults are NOT the lowest point on my system.

Replacement bolts, anti-seze nice clamps, exhaust gaskets are all part of the kit.

Once the H pipe was cut out and the X pipe slipping into place, aligning the exhaust tips took a little time just to ensure they were evenly aligned.

Oh ya, money and time well spent. The exhaust note is best discribed as - exotic. smoother, and even a slightly quiter in the cab.

now let me attempt to attach some pic.

Brad

If you didn't already do so, put anti-seize in the lap joints or you may never be able to disconnect them. In addition, no gaskets are necessary on the flanges. High temp silicone works great and no need to have new gaskets every time the joint comes apart.

Nice install. I did the same thing with a magnaflow x pipe on my 08Z06. Smoothed out the sound and slightly less drone with the BB Fusions.

Funny I uninstalled a X-pipe saturday. Some hack job another shop did. We always wondered why this particular car didnt make as much power as other similar cars with similar mods.

Nick:
How did you loose power with a "bad" x pipe install? Did the pipe get restricted??

Very restrictive, it was some custom made center section that necked down to 2.5 inch single pipe almost. No worries what you are doing on your car is perfectly fine and should help not hinder power production as the center section is premade.

Funny - when I got home on Monday, I had another X pipe delivered with the same order number on the box. A two for one sale . I contacted Corvette Garage and they are picking it up today.

Cool setup! I am currently running a custom exhaust setup with twin x pipes.
