Default Road Trip to Idaho

My wife and I are leaving next Tuesday for a road trip to Boise, Idaho. The main reason is to go to a Boise State football game against Oregon St. Boise State is the only school in the country to have a blue field. I've got to see this in person. We'll cruise some of the mountain roads around Boise, including a trip to Crouch. This town is known to locals because when they built a paved road into the town there was an old bar (you know, booze and stuff) in the way. So they paved one lane on one side of the bar and the other lane on the other side. The bar still stands in all its rustic splendor. In any event it will be good to let the C6 stretch its legs a bit - especially in Nevada. Go Broncos.

Sounds like fun. Please take pics and post them when you get back. Mountain roads are always cool but I'd especially like to see what that bar looks like!

Default Idaho

I lived in Boise for 25 years. If you have the time(at least all day) do the Boise to Sun Valley to Stanley (Red Fish Lake) to Boise. It is mostly mountian roads and very pretty. Go either direction of the loop. Another good day trip is to McCall and back. Enjoy the Blue turf is interesting>

Have fun & drive safe Jim

The old bar your referring to is the Dirty Shame Saloon IIRC. Not sure if they still call it by that name, but yeah, it's rustic alright. How do I know this?? My Mom and her husband live in Garden Valley, not far from the golf course. Beautiful area

Definitely check out the route mentioned above between Boise and Stanley. The Sawtooth Mountains alone are worth the drive! Stanley is a neat little town, & check out the ranger station south of town

Are you going north out of Winnemucca?. Is a nice ride but not many places to stop. In the Winnemucca area the police park in the low area between the east/west bound lanes. We sometimes like to drive on to Wells, Nv., then north thru Jackpot(nice Casino there) then catch the Hy. at Twin Falls.
