Different strokes for different folks, but I've enjoyed my Santa Clara Corvettes membership a great deal. Good friends and lots of activities.. Just finished a 4-week, 7,000 mile road trip with other club members (Home to Toronto, DC, and back again).

There are a gazillion Corvette Clubs in Northern California particularly, the Bay Area. Most of the clubs are affiliated with a National Council like the Western States Corvette Council or the National Council of Corvette Clubs.
If you do not want to pay a "Fee" you would be better off not being a member of a club. Clubs that are not a member of a National Council usually only charge an annual membership fee of $25-50. The clubs that are members of a National Council will add the Council annual fee to their annual membership fee. I believe Western States is still $25 for a renewal.
Each club has their particular flavor of activities like Touring, Wine Tasting, Racing, or partying. Some clubs are large enough to partake in all the activities.
You can google "California List of Corvette Clubs" and you will see the list of clubs throughout California.
Don't be a cheap screw. For $25-50 a year fee it is one of the most fun anyone can have with their clothes on partaking in the activities of a club. If that is too much money than maybe joining a Hyundai Club would work better.
The fees are for a good cause. Some clubs make a small donation to a local charity and use some of their funds to off-set the cost of hosting an annual Christmas party for all the members. Those fees usually end up working their way back to the members.

I was just thinking about a story I heard of a guy who bought a new Corvette, joined a Corvette club and went on his first cruise. When they stopped for lunch, the guy complained about the cost of the beer.
You drive a Corvette. Don't cheap out. Enjoy it.

For the record, its not the cost, its the principle - What does the National Council do for me? I've never even heard of it and not about to send them even a dime for the privilege. I'm not trying to fund someone's side hustle here. I've been part of many clubs and volunteered my time for different roles to keep the club working in a lean way. I can understand web maintenance costs, but a fee for the sake of a fee is silly.

I looked into a club when I first got my Vette and it really wasn't a welcoming experience. I'm sure they are not all like that, but most of them cater a certain "type" I think.
I had way more of a good time doing pick up events with Social Media groups and folks like like Corvette Syndicate.
Looking forward to next years Rainbow Run, last year was so much fun.
