I also forgot to mention. You can see the dry vac there in the left side of the picture. That's because sand is still falling out of the airplane.
What are the two fighters sitting outside. ?????F104s?????

Yeah, if you want to see it, you have to do the "Behind the Scenes" tour.
They just recently rolled it in. This was the best shot that I could get. The rest of the airplane was blocked by another airplane by others. You can walk around it, just can't get a good angle to take a picture of it.
The thing is HUGE!!

Looking forward to the visit

YF23 - Northrop - Full scale mock up. Or the flight demonstrator.
I worked both programs in a VERY dark closet back in the mid 80's.
I personally favored the look of the YF23 - Just beautiful! But, it was bigger than the current F15. Plus, If I remember correctly it had some performance lackings compared to the YF22.

The top view planform lines of this bird are stunning!

Cool to see it again after all these years! Thanks!

The only two fighters I saw out there were Phantoms, but we were allowed to take pictures of anything on the AF base.

Also the XC-99 is out there in pieces. This is the only one ever made. It's a cargo version of the B-36 Peacemaker, but they took two Peacemaker fuselages, and mended them on top of each other. Making it a double decker.

I made a stop there and toured the museum late last year and really enjoyed it.

One more tid bit about the area.
The very first airport is just 2.8 miles from the museum. As you leave the museum, you'll see signs for it.
As well, the Wright brothers Bike Shop is near by too.

My brother and I got lucky. We tried signing up the night beofre, but they were booked. We were walking up to the museum when we heard on the PA speaker that they had some openings.
We ran like hell and JUST made it in.

They are very proud of it. As i would be, it is the baddest aircraft ever built. Five times heavier than the blackbird and flys just as fast.

EDIT: Actually, no I am wrong. I was out by the time they officially retired it but technically I dont think they were flying a few yeras before it was retired
now doesn't that make you wonder what replaced it?
