If you are deaf you can still read lips. If you are blind you can't read sheit.

easy call

I can still drive and be deaf. I can still work and be deaf. I can still get out and do things like ride my motorcycle down the great Tennessee roads and be deaf.

Im losing my hearing as I get older.Im borderline DEAF these days...that being said,Id rather be able to SEE.Being deaf isnt that bad,you can still have a very productive life and enjoy most anything, except sound.

I also come from a very large Deaf family, they all had said in the past they are fortunate they are Deaf and not blind. It could have been worse.
Most of them have successful careers and lives.

I'd much rather be deaf if forced to choose.

Speaking of the senses, I'll never forget as a kid saying that of all the senses we'd live without, the Number One answer was the sense of touch. We'd be able to get whippings and not feel them.

For you Gen X'ers and such, yep. Back in the day, our parents whipped us with belts and didn't worry about Protective Services coming by. We were disciplined and taught to behave. None of that "time-out" stuff back then. We'd have laughed at that type of punishment.

Being totally blind is usually obvious to obervers. People who have been totally deaf for a long time usually read lips and some of them can speak.

Being severely hearing impaired one's entire is a problem that often leads to misunderstanding on the part of others. It becomes a very subtle problem. Others, friends, acquaintances, classmates, strangers many or most times do not realize, understand or appreciate the problem.

Having a severe hearing deficit affects one's personality and one's social interaction with others. I have had a moderate to severe hearing impairment almost my entire life. I have been wearing hearing aids for the past twenty years. I have noticed that so-called friends and acquaintances often don't hesitate to make fun of my hearing impairment. The same people most likely would never make fun of someone who is blind and uses a white cane.
