Default Daryl Gates RIP

He was the MAN!

Former LAPD Chief Daryl Gates Dies At Age 83
LOS ANGELES (CBS) ―

The former Los Angeles Police Chief Daryl Gates has died at the age of 83, according to the Los Angeles Police Union.

Gates was battling bladder cancer.

Even after Gates retired from active duty, he was a regular participant at LAPD events, including the swearing in of Chief Charlie Beck.

Details were still unfolding.

........................................ ........................................ ........

I had nothing but respect for this man
He was the last good chief from ranks that the LAPD had until Charlie Beck became Chief a few months ago

The best part about Chief Gates was he did whatever he thought was the right thing to do. He wasn't a puppet for the city politicians, I can't remember him ever bowing to political pressure. Even though I never worked for the LAPD, I worked alongside them in many operations, and his troops loved him and would follow him anywhere....the sign of a real leader!

He was pro assault weapons ban.

I'll respect the man for the job he did, the risks he took and it appears he was a decent person. But i'll shed no tears.

I also find it ironic that he started the DARE program. Then he told a congressional committee that "casual drug users should be taken out and shot."
